My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A month ago, Slam had everything a dog could possibly want: good food, a comfy place to lay, and a human to pet him. Then his world turned upside down.

In the blink of an eye, he and his two brothers found themselves in the car and headed to the Mahoning County Dog Pound. They thought they were just going for a fun car ride. They had no idea they wouldn't be coming back.

What happened? Their owner had been diagnosed with leukemia and was told to get rid of all his pets. Without thinking of the consequences, he left them all at the pound. As owner surrenders, they were immediately marked for death.

One of the brothers got lucky. He was immediately adopted. But Loonie and Slam sat there in tiny cages for two weeks on borrowed time.

Thanks to one of the volunteer dog walkers at the pound, New Lease on Life found out about these two boys and took them into our care.

Slam is a big boy, weighing in at 85 pounds of pure muscle, but he's a big baby. All he wants is to lay his head in your lap (don't mind the drool) and be petted for hours on end.

Don't let his age fool you. He has plenty of energy, even at 9 years old. He loves all other animals, but he's not recommended if you have small cats or other small animals because he doesn't know his own strength.

Slam loves other dogs and would like to have a doggie companion if you happen to have another dog. If not, an all human family will do.

He is impeccably trained. Slam is completely potty trained and waits patiently to go outside. Slam knows sit, stay, down and shake. He also walks on the leash and understands "no."

Due to Slam's age, he does have a redcued adoption fee of $150, which includes all of his health care. If you would like to take Slam and Loonie together, Loonie's adoption fee will have a $20 discount.
