My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

.Santa made his list and checked it twice...Pickles is decidedly on the "NICE" list! (Upper-rightmost beagle in photo with Santa.) All she wants for Christmas is a home of her own. Ok that, and a Christmas cookie! Won't you please consider making all of her holiday wishes come true?

Pickles is a tiny beagle with a sweet and gentle disposition. She is a shy-reactive girl and thus needs an especially patient forever home. She is extremely unsure around new people and loud sounds. She is especially fearful of men, though she has made progress with foster dad. She will run to greet him and has learned how to give kisses by watching the resident licky beagle. Pickles used to be a finicky eater, earning her the nickname ‘Picky.’ Even though she cleans her plate at every mealtime now, the nickname has stuck.

Pickles was diagnosed with a mild case of heartworms earlier this year and is undergoing heartworm treatment. Her energy level has picked up since she started her treatment. She still spends a lot of time sleeping on the couch, but squeals with excitement at the prospect of going for a walk. She has started trying to initiate play with the resident coonhound (who is three times her size), but has not figured out what to do when he nibbles her ears and plays back.

Pickles really needs a quiet household with a regular routine. While she would probably benefit from having a more confident dog to emulate, another canine companion is not a necessity. Pickles is mostly housetrained but still has an occasional accident. Her potty signals have become much more obvious and consistent, but if you do not act on them immediately, she will find her own potty spot in the house. One of her favorite activities is tracking critters in the backyard. Her little tail spins like a helicopter while she weaves around the yard. While she would love to have a fenced yard of her own, I suspect she would gladly trade it in for the prospect of going on multiple walks every day. She settles in her crate quickly during the workday would do well with almost any work schedule.

Pickles is a wonderful little companion with a lot of love to give! She is a mama’s girl who loves to curl up next to you on the couch, especially if there is a blanket involved. She is ready for a home of her very own!

Note from foster home: Since Pickles has a history of testing positive for heartworms, she will need to receive monthly heartworm preventative year round for the rest of her life.
