MAURICE's Story...
MAURICE (ID# A017977) is a male, gray tabby Domestic Mediumhair. My age is about 3 years old. I've been at the shelter since Sept. 12, 2010. Wow! That's what most people say when they see Maurice for the first time. He is HANDSOME! OK, so let's not be shallow; looks are not everything. Maurice is also very charming. He loves to talk softly to you. He's a curious boy who will explore his surroundings carefully. He's lovely being carried around. But he is aggressive with other cats; better if he's your only love-cat.Maurice has tested positive for FIV, so it's more important than with negative cats that you keep up his vet visits and feed him a quality diet. He'll live a long life with good care. There is a wealth of good information online about feline immunodeficiency virus; be sure you look at Websites with good authority. May we suggest: http://www.bestfriends.org/theanimals/petcare/cats_fiv.cfm as a start. Here's another: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/cat-care/cat-care-feline-immunodeficiency-virus.html You will see that FIV positive cats can be terrific pets for years to come.

Starting the adoption process you need to be 18 years or older, complete an application http://www.petprojectfoundation.org/catadoption.pdf, be interviewed and it is strongly recommended all members of your household have interacted with the cat to make the best match for everyone, the cat you wish to adopt be an indoor cat, and be able to verify with your landlord that you may have a pet if you are renting. Understand we reserve the right to deny the adoption of any pet for any reason. Also any additional requirements for the specific pet you are interested in adopting needs to be met. We adopt to the best home, not necessarily the first application turned in.

Applications are only accepted by FAX (949-366-4765), mail or in person. Sorry, no applications through the Internet.

Cat adoptions are $100 each and include a spay or neuter, microchip, current shots, flea treatment (if required), "New Owner" folder, and one free basic health examination within 5 days of adoption from a veterinarian on our list.

Please call 949-492-1617 to check if your desired pet is still available or the status of your application. We are CLOSED Mondays. Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Sunday: Noon - 3:00 PM. We are very proud of our shelter, it is clean, welcoming, freeway close, and was voted "Best Place to Adopt" by the Orange Coast Magazine!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

MAURICE, a San Clemente Domestic Mediumhair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Mediumhair for sale in San Clemente, or seeking a Domestic Mediumhair cat from a breeder in San Clemente.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in San Clemente already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a San Clemente breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Mediumhair breeders who help with Domestic Mediumhair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in San Clemente paves the way for another one to be saved.
