My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"SQUEAKERS"
Congo African Grey
**SPECIAL NEEDS**
fostered by Eti & Michael of Lutz, FL

Squeakers is a healthy 7 year old Congo African Grey. It is presumed that he is a male but he has not been DNA tested. He is VERY smart like all his species, with a nice and gentle personality, but its seems he likes women more then men. His previous owner said that he doesn't get along with dogs; getting along with other birds is still too soon to tell. Although Squeakers has curvature of the spine (Scoliosis), it doesn't limit him much in doing everything that all the other parrots are doing: climbing, perching and even trying to fly (for his safety we had to clip him). He doesn't step up because his legs are a bit splayed and you need to give him time until he will put one foot on your hand and then you can pick him up. Squeakers talks a lot and mimics lots of noises. He is new with us, so some of the things he is saying we don't understand yet, but we have heard him say "that's good", "excellent" and "lovely" and it made us laugh so much! He also says his name, "hello" and whistles and waves his tail in happiness when I enter his room. He lowers his head for head scratches and doesn't appear to be cage aggressive.
We are in the process of converting his diet to pellets instead of seeds. It seems that he likes the Zupreem pellets, but we mix 3 type of pellets to be on the safe side. He loves grapes and corn and we are trying to expose him to other fruits, vegetables, and beans (that he doesn't want to try yet, but hopefully by introducing it everyday he will start to eat them). With an African Grey it is especially important that they eat vegetables and that they have a lot of calcium, especially considering his disability. I have been told that he loves to take a bath in extremely cold water. I tried to put him in the sink one time but I am not sure he was too happy about it, so the next time I misted him outside in the screened lanai and let him dry in the fresh air. The vet said he needs to be exposed to sun everyday. Overall, Squeakers is a very sweet and gentle bird. If you are adopting him, give him love and attention and keep his cage open during the day so that he can sit on his shelf and watch TV and he will be the sweetest parrot pet for you and a wonderful life-long companion!
Adoption fee $350 with cage $500
