My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 10/4/2010: Spencer is a dashing 3 year old 12 lb Silky boy who is being fostered in Tampa, FL.

Well, well, well..... Spencer is just a doll. He is responding so well to having a pack leader. In just one day, FM has noticed such wonderful improvements that she just knows Spencer will find a home quickly. He is enjoying fetch, and letting FM take the toys back to throw. He plays so well with Zoey, the other 7 lb yorkie in the home. He respects smaller dogs and doesn't mind if she gets the toys that are thrown to him. He shares well in all aspects except for his food and nylabones..... So, no nylabones in the house. As for food, we feed each pup separately. However, he usually eats so quickly that nobody would have the chance to take his food anyway! :)

Spencer is a good boy who just needs a FURever mommy or daddy to love him and show him the ropes. Could it be you?

ORIGINAL BIO 09/30/2010: Spencer is a 3 year old 12 lb Silky Terrier who is being fostered in Miami, FL. Spencer was surrendered by his owner to a high kill shelter, and we were notified by a shelter employees that if he wasn't rescued by that evening, Spencer would be euthanized. We had no choice but to make room for this young, playful, loving pup who just needed more time to find his family.

Spencer loves to walk (and walks well on a leash). He LOVES to play fetch, gets along with other dogs, cuddles beside you, gives kisses, and is 100% housetrained. WOW! He is a wonderful dog with a sweet face and a loving disposition. He even had his dental cleaning already and is waiting for his FURever home!

Now, Spencer does have a small flaw. He guards his belongings. That means that if Spencer is eating and you attempt to place your hand in his bowl, Spencer will growl and possibly snap. If he is playing with a toy by himself in his space, the same might happen. The person(s) who adopt Spencer should be experienced dog owners, because a strong pack leader is necessary for Spencer to understand his place in the home. We are already working on this behavior. When Spencer is not engaging in eating, chewing a bone, or playing with a toy in his crate, he is most definitely a friendly, playful guy who lets you touch him anywhere and give kisses on his face. He is not an aggressive dog. He only protects what he thinks is his. The easiest way to avoid this behavior is not to give Spencer any long-lasting treats like Nylabones or bully sticks (definitely no rawhide for any dog!). Also, do not leave any belongings out that you do not want him to get (again, another no-brainer for anyone with young dogs). Lastly, when you feed Spencer, do not attempt to take his food away from him. Spencer can and will make a wonderful addition to a household who understands terriers or has experienced this behavior. However, because children are less likely to understand that not all dogs want to share, we recommend that Spencer be adopted to an adult household only.

Thanks for reading about Spencer! Please email his Foster mom with any questions :)
