My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A few months ago Prince Charming was left in a night box at a local shelter. He was matted, miserable and could barely walk. It was clear he needed some extra help and found it within the Bay Area rescue community. He was bathed and groomed, taken to a vet for a physical and x-rays, and to a neurologist for an evaluation on his hind legs.

The neurologist believes his disability was caused by a herniated disc which left him partially paralyzed. He was on crate rest for a month and now resides with a foster family who work with him on building strength in his legs and getting him healed to the best of his ability. He’s finally getting the attention he deserves and looking for his special forever home.

Prince Charming is a happy, rambunctious character who loves being around people and loves life. His foster family takes him on two short walks daily (about 8 blocks) and for longer treks he has a specially fitted doggie cart. He also has a pink stroller in his travel kit so he’s well equipped to go with you, anywhere you want! He loves to be included and is very good in the car.

He’s affectionate and loves belly rubs. He’d let you brush him all day long and he’s a groomers dream because he likes to look good! He has big expressive eyes, one blue eye and one brown. When he’s excited he flips all his toys in the air and snorts. He plays well with other dogs and is fine with respectful children who don’t grab him or try to pick him up.

His doctor isn’t sure if his paralysis will be permanent but the improvements he’s made in the last few months have surprised everyone who knows him. He can get up on all fours unassisted, is very motivated to walk, and does. He can tell you when he needs to relieve himself but can’t hold it very long. He wears a belly band on the bed and couch to be safe, just in case. He’s never had an accident while on someone’s lap and holds it all night. His foster family says he’s getting more feeling and sensation back all the time. On a consistent schedule he could continue to improve. He can’t go up and down stairs so a single level home is preferred. He would love a yard to play in and will keep track of neighborhood squirrels for you. He weighs 12 lbs and is about 8-9 years old. He’s had his teeth cleaned, is up to date on his shots and he’s fixed.

Prince is currently being fostered in OAKLAND. He is neutered, current on shots, and microchipped. Prince comes with his wheelchair and stroller. There is a $200 adoption fee, which goes towards each dog's medical expenses. If you are interested in meeting him, please email to request an adoption application. A homecheck will also be required to ensure he goes to an environment suited to him.

If you love the breed, you'll absolutely adore Prince.
