My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Chevy. I'm 1-and-a-half years old, neutered male terrier-boxer mix - emphasis on the "mix" as we don't know what my breed combo is for certain, but I sure am cute! When I first came to the Rescue, I was underweight, but now I'm a healthy 50 lbs and feeling good! I'm healthy, happy and super friendly. I love people and kids, other dogs, toys, car rides. I'm an upbeat dude with a sweet, loving disposition. I was found in the Toledo area just roaming the streets. I was underweight and my poor little paws were pretty sore and cut up from being on cement. Any experiences of life on the streets has had no lasting effect on me. I love dogs of all sizes. Cats, however, are not my favorite friend. (I am frightened of them at first, then I want to chase them. I can't help it. They run.)

I am an energetic, goofy, loveable, snugglebug with a chronic case of wigglebutt. I am quick to learn and a total people pleaser. I easily learned loose-leash walking, "sit," "wait" and come when I am called. Also, I know "lie down," "outside?", "jump up", "off", "bang" (play dead for nail trimming/vet checks), "git" (back up), "give kisses" and "shake". See, told you I'm smart! I am fully housetrained and crate trained and I even know "in your house" means to get into my crate for the night or when my foster mom is running errands.

Most of all, I love my people friends. I gladly meet strangers at the door but can get a little excited and forget that I know not to jump. A quick reminder of "sit" is all it takes for me to remember. I have had many positive experiences with toddlers and babies, but I'm still very clumsy with my paws so, like all dogs, I need lots of supervision around kids. During the day, expect me to be by your side - I am the quintessential Velcro dog.

I love playing with other dogs of all sizes, sticks, my Kong and my squeaky frog. I can get a little mouthy during active play but just needs a reminder to 'give kisses' instead of mouthing. I would probably be best in a home with children over 10 and no cats. Because I like rough and tumble wrestling, I should be supervised around smaller dogs. I have been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Give me a chance for a life of love and happiness. Adoption fee: $75.

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at the link above or send an email to info@pawsforliferescue.org to tell us which pet you're interested in and we'll send you a questionnaire that will help us make the best match for you and your new pet. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. This is a pending period to give your dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
