UPDATE ON DEENA

12/21/10
Deena’s second surgery came off without a hitch! She wanted everyone to see that she is doing well and asked us to share her post-surgery photos. She is set to recover for a few weeks and will then begin her physical therapy!!

*******

When Deena first came into our rescue with her siblings, Dane and Danielle, she was found to be the calmest of the clan. She did not jump up when she got excited like her siblings did and she usually sat very calmly. After a consultation with a specialized orthopedic vet, it was found that this sweet young girl was born with an uncommon congenital deformity, a lateral luxating patella. Dr. Milton of Birmingham Al said that he has only seen this condition about 10 times in his 40 year career. Normally, the prognosis is better when corrective surgery is performed early in the dog’s life so SGRR wasted no time in seeing that Deena got the care she needed. She came through her first surgery very well but since both of Deean’s legs are affected by this condition, she will need a second corrective surgery. Left untreated, this abnormal displacement of the kneecap results in pain, cartilage damage, and arthritis.

Once Deena has been through both surgeries, she will undergo at least 6 weeks of physical therapy to help her become strong and teach her to use her legs again. We estimate that Deena’s medical expenses will run between $3000-$4000. No expense will be spared to help Deena live the life of a normal pup and we await the day when we are able to send Deena to her “forever home!” Until then, please drop by to read about her road to recover. Donations for Deena’s care can be made via her “Chip-In” account. Or use the PayPal button on the home page or you can send a check to SGRR P.O. Box 1035 Point Clear Alabama.

Newly mown hay… A box of chocolates… A dozen roses… Not too many things smell as sweet as PUPPY BREATH! And here we have PUPPY BREATH three times over! Danielle, Deena, and Dane are 3-4 month old siblings. They are believed to be Golden Retriever/St Bernard mixes and they are the most adorable bundles of fluff that you can imagine! While all of the pups just eat up love and affection, each dog has its own unique personality. Deena is the calmest of the group. She is sweet, affectionate, and loving, and has a very gentle soul. Danielle is VERY playful and loving and has that “Look at me!” personality! Dane is a very social boy and wants to be where ever the action is. The pups are wonderful with kids and other dogs. Apply quickly – these pups will not be available for long!

Puppies require a great deal of time, attention and patience. We can only consider applications for puppies from folks who are home most of the day.
