Estimated DOB 01/01/2005

Size Small (about 7 lbs)

History- Louie came to us after being raised in a home with children who teased him- they had purchased him for breeding. The children in the home thought it was cute to make the puppy mad and the parents did nothing to correct the children's behavior. Once Louie was an adult it was no longer 'cute or funny' and they surrendered him to rescue. He was then adopted out to an elderly woman who was later put in a nursing home which left Louie coming back into rescue. He was then adopted again and returned for aggression though the only thing he does is growl when he is under a blanket sleeping and someone disturbs him - so not sure what that was about but he is once again back in rescue looking for a home.

Temperament- Louie is overall a happy, loving little boy who loves to be loved. He also loves to work for treats and will do all his commands perfectly if there is a treat involved. However despite how perfect he is he is also too smart for his own good and has learned that growling will get people to leave him alone. So if he is under his blanket or does not want someone to pick him up he will growl- we correct him and he is fine. But typically he is just a loving, happy little guy who loves attention.

Energy Level- Mid level. He likes to go outside with us and walk around and play outside however if we are inside so is he. He hates being outside by himself except to go potty. Once in a while he will play with toys and even uses his food as a toy if he is feeling playful. He is adorable.

Dogs/Cats/Kids- He loves the other dogs and will attempt to play sometimes. He is good with the cats (just ignores them)..  We are not recommending him for small children due to his history.

Commands/Obedience Level- Louie does know his basic commands.. He can sit, shake, and down and he knows the command 'quiet'.. He loves treats and will do all his commands perfectly to earn them.

Housetrained- He is completely housebroken.  He does know what a doggie door is and will use it if given the opportunity. He is super smart and will let you know when he wants in or out.

Best in a home that can provide a lot of attention, love and guidance.. He does need someone stronger than him mentally or he will challenge your authority and win. Over all Louie is a great little dog with a wonderful personality and a coat like velvet and a sweet loving personality. He has had quite a few dentals since being in rescue so his tongue now hangs out the side of his mouth- it is sooo darn cute..

Adoption fee $100 includes neuter, rabies vaccine, age appropriate vaccinations, dentals he has received, collar and tags, microchip, training information, and all the support you need.

About Almost Home NM

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt staus..
It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property.
We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.
We do not descriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands.
We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to call or e-mail me.

In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals.

We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out.

If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away.
