My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Burt's story is below, but I'd like to say a few words first before you read it.

I took the ride today to meet Burt. It was an hour drive, one way, but I wanted to take some better pictures of him than I had gotten from Sandi's camera phone. I wanted to know first hand what his temperament was so I could find him the right home. I have been posting him for days trying to find him a place to go to because our rescue is so full. Until today, I really had no idea who Burt was and how much the world had let him down.

Burt has to be the most emaciated dog I have ever seen. You can see in his picture how thin he is. I was shocked and my heart broke as my hand rubbed his side and I felt every rib. As I rubbed his back and moved my hands down towards his tail, I could feel every bone. My God, so thin! And this was after weeks of trying to put some weight back on him. Who could do this to an animal?

Burt doesn't just need a new owner. Burt needs someone special. He needs that one person who is willing to take this emaciated, unwanted, deserted soul and pick up the broken pieces and bring him back to life so he can be the dog he was meant to be and live the rest of his days knowing love.

For all that has been done to him, he is still very sweet. A dog like this will be the dog that you talk about for years. You'll tell his story over and over about how he came to you and how far you went to heal his wounds......and how grateful he was that you were there for him.

Anybody can rescue a well mannered dog from the pound and feel good about doing it. They should feel good. It is a wonderful and commendable thing to do, but, it takes a different kind of person to rescue a dog like Burt. It takes one who is patient and can give him the time to adjust to a new home and new routine and a new life. It takes one who has some dog experience or at least the willingness to want to help a dog and give him the guidance he so desperately wants. Take a minute to really think...are you that kind of person? I know you're out there and I will not rest until I find you. Burt is counting on you.....we all are.

Burt's Story -
Another senior dog in need!
Poor Burt was dumped at a kill shelter and managed to get adopted out at an event but the new owners didn't work out. He was only with them a short time. They would not make the effort to help him adjust and he was given back to his foster mom Sandi. Sandi, being a very caring woman, does not want to bring him back to the kill shelter and has asked us for assistance in placing him.

Burt is a buff colored American Cocker Spaniel. He celebrated his 10th birthday on October 15th. He was just neutered November 9th and is up to date on his shots. He has been de-wormed and received a rabies and lyme vaccine. As you can see in his picture, he is very thin still. He was very malnourished when he arrived at the kill shelter, but is being fed the finest of foods and is closer to being a healthier weight. He loves to take walks, chase bubbles and catch popcorn.

He has some hearing loss, as most senior dogs do, and will get scared if you approach him from behind. He has some resource guarding and would do best in a home with no small children.

Burt has a new Lupine leash and collar, a dog crate and some toys.

All in all, he is a nice dog who is very attentive to people and absolutely loves getting attention. He is begging for another chance. Given time and a patient family, Burt would be a wonderful addition. Burt really needs a home, but most of all, he needs for it to be the RIGHT home. Could that home be yours?
