My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Finnegan (aka Little Foot) is a little dream... so sweet, great on the leash, and really good at giving those loving eyes.Finnegan is 8 years old and weighs 54 pounds. Sadly, Finnegan and his companion, Buster, had to be given up by there owner due to the NYCHA ban which orders tenants who live in New York City Housing Authority buildings to not own pit bulls, Rottweilers and Doberman pinschers. In addition, the new policy bans any dog that weighs more than 25 pounds. This forced a good owner to put this loving well trained dog in the shelter, leaving dog and owner heartbroken.

His previous owner said he has had obedience training and he is good with cats, dogs, children, men and women. His previous owner also said this guy likes his Pedigree food dry mixed with soft can food! We can tell you all of that is true. Finn loves all people, He has been treated well in his past so all humans, dogs, and cats are perfect in his eyes. Finnegan scored a fabulous mild on this behavior evaluation because he's just that great. Did you know that's equivalent to a A+??? He walks with a little limp and has some white on his face from years of wisdom and yes, age. He is very loyal, always following and standing nearby. Finn would really love to have another friendly dog in the house since he had a brother who was adopted from the shelter before Finn. When he meets another male dog he wants to play, he must have spent so much time playing with his brother and we think he misses that. When he meets the lady dogs he is a total gentlemen. What a prince this dog is!!!

Time will heal his heart and we are confident he will find full happiness again with a new owner. His brother, who was a year older was adopted from the shelter first because Finn showed signs of a slight cold. That put Finn on the list to be put to sleep on St. Patrick's Day. When Rawhide volunteers heard his story we knew we had to save him and instead of his life ending on St. Paddy's day, Finn became a Rawhide Rescue dog and his future is bright! If you have reservations about the American Pit Bull Terrier or if you are a huge fan of this wonderful widely abused breed we welcome you to stop in at our adoption days to meet Finnegan. He will enjoy meeting you. He is neutered, heartworm tested neg. microchipped and vaccinated.

Check the events page on our website for more information and directions to our adoption events.
