Little Miss Honey is an 9 lb. bundle of pure joy! Estimated to be 5 years old, this darling Peke (and our Dulcie who was rescued with her) was bred over and over again from the time she came into her first heat. Yes, she came from a puppymill in the south and, along with other dogs, used as evidence in the cruelty and neglect case against the miller. And, when the case was over, they were all supposed to be destroyed. Saved from that fate, they were taken in by another rescuer in North Carolina, vetted, had their horrendously matted hair shaved off, and were all spayed - then we had Honey and Dulcie transported north. Honey weighed only 7 lbs. when rescued and all her ribs and spine were highly visible after being shaved. While she was being spayed, most of her teeth were also removed - being bred over and over again severely depleted the calcium in them and they just rotted away. But she eats very well with the teeth she has left and crunchy food is no problem (and her tongue that always hangs now out gives her a very cute and happy expression!). You'd think the life she had would have left her unsocial? Not our Honey! She LOVES people and craves affection. She will dance on her hind legs with her front feet almost looking like they are clapping! While Honey is excellent with older, respectful children, because of her tiny size homes with children under the age of 11 won't be considered. And though she would prefer to be an only dog, she gets along well with other small dogs and cats - but she will try to push them away when they are the ones being paid attention to.
