(By foster mom Gwen)Patches loves toddlers and children but doesn't push herself on them. She will zero in on a tot and go park herself as close as they will allow. She is loving, gentle and outgoing with people in general, but she is happiest when she is following a child around. She had just met the little boy in the photos a few minutes before the pictures were taken, yet she followed him around and let him crack eggs on her head, fall down on her, and trip over her leash without complaint. She will walk right up to anyone for a meet and greet, but she is not pushy. She doesn't jump up on people or on furniture. She and her brother Jaybo are the easiest dogs I've ever fostered. They are the only foster dogs I've allowed to live unsupervised with my chickens.
She has been raised as an outdoor dog, but she loves coming in the house. She is housebroken and doesn't even like to relieve herself in the foster dog pen, preferring to go out in the woods rather than the yard if given the opportunity. She is easy to bathe and groom, soaking up the attention.
She gets along well with my four large dogs, but she relates more to people than to other dogs. She will get protective about me and growl if strange dogs comes close to us in public places, but a short verbal correction from me tells her it's OK. She would be very happy as the only dog in a family. She is an alert watch dog but doesn't bark unnecessarily. If she barks, you know there is someone or some critter out there. She doesn't like to be fenced away from the family in a pen, but she is content inside the family's yard fence. Her favorite life would be as an inside/outside dog. She craves being an honest companion with much interaction with the humans in the household whether on the farm/estate or just in an apartment with daily walks. She is not a high energy dog. Her main goal in life is to have a family or owner to relate to.
Her stunning color pattern stops traffic wherever she goes. We know she has lab and catahoula in her background but her coat is longer and softer than a catahoula or a hound. She doesn't chase chickens or cats, and will stay with me on trails instead of running off after interesting smells because her desire is to be with people. Had she been photographed and promoted before now, she would surely have been adopted as a puppy. I photograph Patches and her brother Jaybo just about every day on our walks, so if you would like to see more pictures than the four allowed on this site or if you would like to come for a meet and greet in Pike County, GA, just let me know at gwenroland@gmail.com
Rescue Group Info...
We are a small all volunteer state licensed non-profit rescue in rural Georgia. Our county does NOT have animal control so the public and deputies are allowed to control strays by shooting them. It is pathetic that in 2012 we are allowed to shoot domestic companion animals as stray control. We are working hard to save what we can and are willing to transport our adoptable pets to the area to give them more exposure and a second chance for a forever home. We have many more available pets than what we have posted. Contact us if you are looking for something in particular or if you aren't looking for a particular breed but know size and age range we'll get back to you with what we have.
We are presently not holding adoption events in the area but we do bring preadopted pets to their forever homes once a week.
We have a nice selection of puppies, adults and seniors available for adoption so if you are looking to add a new pet to your household please contact us. Email gets a faster response.
Minimum requirements:
1. At least 25 yrs. old
2. Steady employment (this will be checked)
3. Valid driver's license
4. Vet reference
We have an application and phone interview process. There is an adoption fee usually $200. All of our dogs are vet examined w/ fecal, heartworm test, spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations including rabies, deworming, microchip and on flea & heartworm preventative.
Every pet transported is examined by a GA licensed vet and have a current health certificate.
