Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ATTENTION! OK AT EASE! My name is Soldier and I just returned from BOOT CAMP. Well, I guess it was really just Basic Training, not Boot Camp which is much more intense. Anyhow I was sent because I needed some discipline. I have a little problem when I see people I really like I tend to jump up and nip them. I don't mean to hurt, I'm just so happy to see people that I can't help getting a little excited. I like people a lot. I like dogs a lot. I even like cats a lot. I am learning to control myself but I can't do it alone. Whoever adopts me will have to help me. I really need some more dog training. OH! By the way just so you don't think I'm a terrible out of control dog I really like to cuddle. I will set quietly in your lap, beside you or lay next to you in bed if you will allow me too. I do like to chew things and sometimes get into trouble for that. My foster family now makes sure there isn't anything around that I can destroy and they allow me to have the run of the house most of the time. I really have earned that! OK, that’s all for now ATTENTION! DISMISSED!
Foster family note: Soldier is everything he said he is and more. He is a wonderful little guy without a mean bone in his body. He is happy all the time and loves to play with other dogs. We are working on his nipping and he hasn't nipped us hard enough to hurt but we cannot allow that to continue. He responds well to corrections and allows us to take food from him. He isn't high energy; he is high energy on steroids. He is such a happy dog and is easy to control. Once he settles down he is perfect; he is a treasure. I think he is part Jack Russell or Rat Terrier. They are typically smarter than the average dog and this little guy is very smart. The commands he knows he has learned quicker than any other dog I have seen. He definitely needs lots of dog training and once he gets it he will be the best dog you ever had! Whoever adopts Soldier will win the Dog Lottery! They just have to understand that to enjoy their prize they also have to put effort into teaching him. The rewards are so much greater than the effort for any dog but especially for this little guy. He is a very small dog even for a beagle and tips the scales at about 18 lbs. He is about 19 months old. I think he would probably do best in a home with children about 9 years or older. He will also do well in a house with another dog as long as the dog is tolerant of his energy but he would also do well in a home without another dog. He does get along with cats but if they are his only distraction it may not be too much fun for the cat. If you want or can handle a very high energy dog this little guy would be perfect.
