Sox (aka Soxy Lady)'s Story...
02/13/11 - Sox Update
Sox went on an Adoption Day trip to Mingle With Our Mutts in Dayton, Ohio today. She rode with Bandit whom she was meeting for the first time and after the initial doggy greeting rituals and one brief exchange of growls they did fine. When we got on site they played together like they had known each other for ever.
There was a disappointingly small turn-out, both of Rescue Groups and potential adopters but there hadn't been much advertising and we were told two local pet stores were having adoption events that same day. The staff told us that this is always the slow time of the year but that it usually starts picking up in April or May so we probably won't be going back until then.
Meanwhile, she traveled well, was "awesome" according to one family who took her out to the dog park for a walk and took home information on her. We are hoping to hear back from them in a few days.

Please take a good look at Sox and see if you can't find it in your heart to come and meet her at one of our adoption outings.

If you are interested please email Kathy at and arrangements will be made for an introduction. Sox will love you for life!
12/10/10 - Sox, aka Soxy Lady, is estimated to be a bit over 1 year old and weighs approximately 45 pounds. We suspect she was mistreated as a puppy and then ended up in a kill facility. When first approached she cowered, hid and messed herself. After working with her she started to learn that not all humans wanted to hurt her and was able to wear a collar and walk on a leash. She is still skittish around new people, especially some men, until she gets to know you. Once she does, she loves to play, wrestle with other dogs, chase cats and get petted - a lot of petting - if you stop, a reminder in the form of a foot on your lap is sure to follow..

She is paper trained and learning to alert when she needs to go out. She is also learning the commands 'sit', 'off', 'out', 'leave it' and 'cookie'. Loves those cookies but they have to be the right kind. No ordinary doggie biscuits for our Sox. Gotta be a rawhide chip or bone or, even better, a Snausage or a hoof from TSC.

She is still nervous if the play with other dogs gets too rough and may yip like she is being killed if it overwhelms her. She will sometimes curl her lip at other dogs if they try to bother her when she has a cookie or is eating but she just warns them. She gets over it as she gets acquainted with them unless they continue to be too rough.

She alerts if someone is at the door or a strange dog is in the yard but she is in no way a barker or agressive - unless you count jumping up and asking for attention agressive.

If you would like to learn more about the adoption fee for Sox or other pets we have available, please contact us. You can also check out our website ,, for information on when we will be taking animals on adoption outings at one of our great local businesses such as Petland and TSC.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sox (aka Soxy Lady), a Hillsboro Feist/Hound (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Feist/Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Hillsboro, or seeking a Feist/Hound (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Hillsboro.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hillsboro already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hillsboro breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Feist/Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Feist/Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hillsboro paves the way for another one to be saved.
