Guinevere's Story...
ADOPTED 4/22/11
2 1/2
Adoption Fee: $450

Guinevere was found wandering around with Lancelot, her knight in shining armor. The pair was taken to a kill shelter where their chances of getting adopted instead of being euthanized were slim to none. Luckily, SGRR was called and we were only too happy to take in these two dogs with tons of potential.

Guinevere is being fostered in Pensacola, FL by one of SGRR’s very dedicated foster moms. Now that Guinevere is finished with her heartworm treatment, her foster mom is preparing her for her trip North where her forever family awaits her somewhere. With all the loving care and training this volunteer bestows upon her foster dogs, we know that this is going to be one very desirable girl so we urge you not to wait to apply! Guinevere is approximately 2 ½ years old and thought to be a Flat Coated Retriever/Border Collie mix. She is very affectionate and just loves to play, play, play!! Guinevere doesn’t like being cornered which may be an indicator of something she suffered through in her past life. Whatever it may have been, Guinevere is safe now.

This raven-haired beauty has wonderful house manners and has no accidents in the house. Guinevere is a bit of a “Velcro dog” and when she is outside in the yard, she hangs around the back door, not wanting to be too far from her person. She gets along wonderfully with her foster mom's dog. She rides well in the car and sleeps soundly in her crate through the night. Guinevere’s foster mom is turning this sweet muffin into one heck of a snuggler too! Now, all she wants to know is that when she snuggles up in her big fluffy bed at night, the last thing she will hear is, “Guinevere, I love you!" Her eyes shining brightly at you will speak volumes of the love she returns right back at you!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit.
We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Guinevere, a New Canaan Flat-Coated Retriever/Border Collie dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Flat-Coated Retriever/Border Collie for sale in New Canaan, or seeking a Flat-Coated Retriever/Border Collie dog from a breeder in New Canaan.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in New Canaan already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a New Canaan breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Flat-Coated Retriever/Border Collie breeders who help with Flat-Coated Retriever/Border Collie rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in New Canaan paves the way for another one to be saved.
