My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WINSTON is a dog in need... he really needs a family to love him , and pet him , and take care of him...

He was NOT well cared for in his former life at all. the picture that shows him the day we saved him with his longer coat shows how filthy he was - it doesnt show you how badly matted to the skin he was , the horrible stench he had. - WE scooped this charming frog up and turned him into a prince, a complete shave of his coat was mandatory - as the stench and the matting was to the skin- and required this. his coat will grow back and when it does it will be groomed neatly and yet he will be able to have longer hair again as we will take very good care of him.
right now he looks rather bald, but we are ceratin he feels 100 percent better withoutthe pain of those horrid mats and that terrible stench .

the entire time the groomer was clipping, she actually had to use a surgical blade to getthe mats from his ears, he was in pain during this clipping , and cried - but he never did anything more than lick her hand as she carefully removed that horrid coat. That tells us a LOT about his personality, the groomer herself said she has dogs bite her for far less than what she had to put this poor dog through, and she was very impressed with his temperment.

He is currently in a foster home with 3 large dogs and another toy.

he is fine with the one female large dog that basically ignores him, the other 2 big dogs are young and get in his face trying to make him play - he does NOT like them at all. they scare him. and he will snap and growl at them. to make them stay away. He cannot sleep if they are lurking around him. They truly scare him.

Thus we would prefer he be in a home as an only dog or with a NON pushy, NON HYPER young playful, dog as a pal, he prefers smaller dogs than big dogs.

He was very good with our other fosters children , but the youngest is age 8- i would prefer not to place him with children UNDER 8 , and children that know better than to torment dogs, he loves attention & affection but does NOT wish to be used as a "play toy." or played with roughly.

He does NOT like to be in a crate but will settle down after a few minutes. - we are currently housetraining him, he was NOT housetrained when he came in- we are working on this.

he will do very well in an apartment or condo , as well as in a regular home.

he doesnt require a lot of exercise, so if you do NOT have a fenced yard and are willing to walk him often enough to keep him on his housebreaking training - he would be fine.

he LOVES to play ball - and will play with you for hours.

Winston ia appx 1 & 1/2 yrs old.

He would make a perfect pet for a retired person(s) as he loves all the affection & attention & love he can get.

If you never had a Lhasa before it would be wise to rescearch this breed - you can find links to info on the breed on our web site

under his bio & photos.

we will update more about him as he settles into his foster home.
