My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi guys! My name is Penelope and I am SUPER! Yep, you heard right, super! I am a 9 month old bully gal looking for ‘the’ perfect home. Not just any home, but the home that will commit to love me forever, til death do us part!
I bet you are wondering how I ended up in rescue. My owner/breeder left me at a vet clinic since he didn’t want to deal with me. You see, he already got what he wanted from me, puppies! Yep, I am not even a year old yet and he bred me on my first heat cycle. I went through a c-section and raised my pups for a few weeks. I am still a puppy myself! The nice staff at the vet’s clinic called Love-A-Bull Rescue right away. They noticed that I was throwing up a lot. They took me to the rescue vet, and they discovered that I had a hand towel inside of my intestines! It must have looked delicious, so I ate it! Of course, my old owner/breeder not being very caring, probably knew there was something wrong with me, so he wanted to get rid of me before I cost him any money. How sad! Anyway, the vet did a surgery on me to remove the hand towel and I am a new woman! I feel great. I am able to run, play and have fun like a puppy should.
I am now spayed and will never have to be put through having puppies again. I get along great with other dogs, and would love to have a playful doggie friend. I will be placed with a neutered male dog who is playful, or no other dogs at all. Long term, 2 female dogs may end up fighting. I have seen cats and have been okay with them, and have lived with kids who are 8 and up. I am also crate trained and walk very good on a leash! My new home MUST be willing to sign me up for beginner obedience classes at Petsmart or Petco.
The home I go to will have to understand that I am a 10 plus year commitment. I will not be adopted to a home that isn’t absolutely perfect, my foster mom will be accepting applications for me and choosing the best family.
I am very healthy now, but remember, a bulldog is a BIG responsibility just like any dog, so please, make sure you have tons of love in your heart to give me. I have been through too much pain and sadness in my short little life already. The good news is that my old life is all behind me! I am SO happy to be in rescue, and everyone has fallen head over heels for me! I LOVE to play and explore.

My adoption donation to rescue is $700
You MUST fill out an application if you want to be considered for my home. NO inquiries will be returned without an application on file. We DO NOT adopt outside of Arizona, and we do not adopt to homes with more than 2 dogs.

*WHY ARE SOME DOG’S ADOPTION FEES HIGHER THAN OTHERS?
The adoption donation fees are based on age, health and needed vet care of the dogs we have taken in. The younger, healthier dogs help to pay for their cousins that need a little more TLC. You adoption donation fee also covers the cost of the spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchip of your new dog.
*CAN WE COME SEE YOUR DOGS?
All of our dogs are in foster homes around the Phoenix area. We require an application to be filled out, a home check to be done, and vet reference check to be complete before having you come meet the dog of your dreams! We will ONLY contact you when we have a potential match.
*I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL DOGS WHO I THINK WOULD FIT MY HOME, BUT THEY ARE NOW ADOPTED. WHY?
We take a lot of time to get to know our dogs in rescue. Some are barkers, which cannot go into condos or apartments, some require companionship of other dogs, and some are not good with children. Each dog is unique!
*IS THERE A WAITING LIST OF APPROVED APPLICANTS?
YES! That is why even if you are not ready to adopt, get your application into us if you want to be considered for a future adoption.
*I AM LOOKING FOR A PUPPY OR VERY YOUNG BULLDOG.
Well, you have come to the wrong place. Rescue dogs on average are between 3 and 7 years old, we do not get puppies into rescue. We would, however, be able to refer you to a reputable breeder.
*BULLDOGS ARE SO EXPENSIVE! WHY?
If you are looking for a cheap bulldog by choosing rescue, need not apply! Rescue dogs are dogs that are going to need ongoing vet care, and a lot of love and training from their new humans. We only adopt to homes that truly want to RESCUE a homeless bulldog. This is not the place to find a “cheaper” bulldog.
*I HAVE AN APPLICATION ON FILE, AND HAVE CALLED A FEW TIMES, WITH NO RESPONSE.
We will contact you when we believe we have a dog that is a match.
Please remember: Not only are bulldogs adorable and cute, they are also high-maintenance and expensive! ☺
