Nana-Adoption Pending's Story...
Note from Nana’s foster Mom:

Nana is a purebred, female Newfoundland approximately 7 years old. This is the second time she has been at my house for Foster care and she is a dog that will make your heart go pitter-patter with love. Blame it on the economy for the reason she is back here and needing a forever home again. When I was asked about taking Nana back into foster care I didn’t even hesitate to say “Yes”. Her original owners had 8 children that Nana grew up with and her adoptive home had 3 little girls. The adoptive dad said that this was the most awesome dog you could ask for around kids and he wouldn’t have hesitated to bring their new baby home with Nana in the house. She has a beautiful, sunny disposition and from what I’ve seen, she loves all people from all walks of life and all ages.

When I had her previously she was a frequent visitor to the nursing home that I worked at. The residents, visitors, and staff all loved seeing her come to work with me and many of them begged to have their picture taken with her. She dealt well with people from 8 months old up to 100 years old. She was very well mannered at work and would politely step out of the way of wheelchairs, laundry carts and any other equipment. She would willingly go to anybody to get petted. She followed me every place in the building and did not have a leash on. And of course she loves going for rides.

She is very well housebroken and does not chew or get into things. She does not jump up on people. At times she will bark, but that is when she typically wants to play and she is easily redirected. I would willingly adopt this dog myself except I know that I can’t provide what she really wants the most in life. Kids. This is a dog that needs kids to love and watch over. My kids are grown adults and she seldom gets to see my grandkids, but she loves them like crazy when they are here. In her previous homes she has had a Sheltie for a friend and also a Peek-a-Poo for a friend and played well with both dogs. She also gets along well with my two Newfs. She has not been around cats much, but she was very friendly and gentle to my outdoor kitten. She was curious about the kitten, sniffed it a little bit and then lost interest. She did not try to chase it or paw it.

Nana is healthy and weighs in at just over 110 pounds, she is spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on vaccinations.
Update frm Nan's foster Mom: I took Nana to the nursing home today where I work. As usual we were mobbed and as usual Nana behaved in a perfect ladylike manner. She was a huge hit and they are wanting to know when we're coming back and can stay longer. In one room we had a lady that's 100 years old and a little visitor younger than 3 was also there. What started as a quick pop-in visit turned out to be about 45 minutes and only about 30 people. We had groups as large as 10-15 people at a time and Nana handled it like the pro that she is.

Our adoption fee is $250.00. A fenced yard with a minimum height of 4-feet is required for adoption.

We normally try to adopt out in our region. If you plan on submitting an application and you are out of our region, once your application is approved we require that you come to our area to meet the dog and foster family. If that goes well you will be able to take your Newfie home with you.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or to request a application.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Nana-Adoption Pending, a Lee's Summit Newfoundland dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Newfoundland for sale in Lee's Summit, or seeking a Newfoundland dog from a breeder in Lee's Summit.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Lee's Summit already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Lee's Summit breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Newfoundland breeders who help with Newfoundland rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Lee's Summit paves the way for another one to be saved.
