Please shout out "HELLO HAPPY HOLLY" to one of our special new rescue charges, and allow us this opportunity to introduce you to this healthy 4-5 year old Golden Retriever/Duck Toller female. When meeting HOLLY, it's easy to fall in love with her because what's most readily apparent about her is the ability SHE has to LOVE EVERYTHING AND EVERY ONE! Yeah, she's just that happy around people, other dogs, and all things that emulate LOVE. Dogs like HOLLY are what make rescue such a fulfilling endeavor, and for so many reasons. No matter what they've endured, or how unfortunate a past they survived, they move on with trust and remain FULL OF LOVE, able to give and receive it unconditionally!
Holly is one of 13 adult dogs our rescue took into its care upon receiving word that a slew of dogs were living life outside either chained to a tree or penned in enclosures open to the harsh and brutal elements in the woods of Picayune, Mississippi. There were also 3 very young puppies we rescued that have fortunately all already been adopted. While our rescue took 16 dogs total, there were still 24 other dogs remaining. Thankfully, other dedicated local rescues stepped in to help the rest of the dogs, and just in time, too! It was a week before Christmas and the Deep South was experiencing one of the coldest winters ever, so there was no time to spare. Good thing there was a lot of love in the air and the desire to help reigned supreme! It's what makes rescue possible!
Whether an authentic "hoarder" or a well-intentioned citizen turned overwhelmingly incompetent, the gentleman requesting our help clearly was very fond of the dogs. We know this because all the dogs--although not vetted and left outside in the elements-- ALL responded to him favorably and with tails wagging vigorously when he approached them. Sadly, these dogs were kept in a densely wooded area, and when asked, it was readily admitted that he didn't think he had to give any of the dogs heartworm prevention because "their hair is long, and no mosquito is going to get in there." Well, we know that's not true, unfortunately. And after a long education and a promise from the gentleman that he would take NO MORE DOGS, the dogs were hauled off, responsibly vetted and altered. All the dogs except one young adolescent and the three puppies because of their young ages were heartworm positive, and needed to be treated to rid their precious bodies of that horrific and potentially deadly parasite. While heartworm is not a death sentence, it IS completely avoidable, and a monthly pill could have prevented the dogs from ever having to undergo this physical malady in the first place. Dog owners have a HUGE RESPONSIBILITY to be good stewards of their charges, and in this instance, it is quite obvious that neglect and ignorance were the issues at hand. Rescue is not only about rehab and adoption, but about EDUCATION and ADVOCACY -- so when we can, WE MUST SHARE RESPONSIBLE AND HUMANE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF OWNING AN ANIMAL and not simply lay blame and complain. Looking for the solutions is ALWAYS the option that produces the most positive results for all involved, especially the dogs -- and they are our common shared goal. Besides, our humanity is supposed to guide us to help those who need it most. At least this man understood that he could not properly take care of the dogs and asked for help. It is not our place to judge, really -- but to lend a hand to the hopeless and the voiceless. And these dogs needed rescue . . . and they show their gratitude for that every single day . . .
2011 heralds ALL THINGS GOOD AND WONDERFUL for these dogs, though, to be sure! We are celebrating the near end of the heartworm protocol, and the dogs all did marvelously with their treatment. Of course, the dogs will require monthly prevention hereafter as any dog does, but should have no complications whatsoever from the treatment. With hearts clear and FULL OF HOPE AND POSSIBILITY, the "Mississippi Mob" is ready for adoption, and every dog we know is ready to leap into their respective adoptive forever hearts and homes. So, if you want to make a difference this year to a deserving dog in need, and are fond of Golden Retrievers and Duck Tollers, LOOK NO MORE! These dogs are all so sweet and resilient and enjoy life to the FULLEST -- especially HOLLY, one of the happiest girls around!
HOLLY is approximately 4-5 years old and weighs 43 pounds of sweetness. None of these rescued charges had been vetted prior to our late December rescue, and all were riddled with internal parasites: hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms and the heartworms that were mentioned already. However, that is a thing of the past -- NOW all of the dogs are extremely happy and healthy, and only ONE MERE WEEK AWAY FROM FINISHING THEIR HEART WORM TREATMENT! Well, beyond the critical stage, they are thriving, happy tail wagging love-bugs, especially Holly!
Our benevolent and deeply compassionate rescuer, LOU, who has faithfully dedicated the last two months to caring for the "Mississippi Mob" remarks,
HOLLY is just so easy going and eager to be considered part of the plan in life, that we are confident she will acclimate easily to her new loving environment and capture your soul as much as she has ours. All of the MISSISSIPPI MOB are just the most amazingly resilient and special dogs, and all HOLLY wants is love. So if you have that to offer, be sure you will get much more in return from this gorgeous girl! There's nothing more delightful or rewarding to see rescued dogs blossom and flourish with the devoted patience and understanding they require to move beyond the uncertainties that plagued their former days. HOLLY loves to romp with the other dogs and play chase! Moderately active, for sure, but highly enthusiastic, Holly will require the same sort of exercise one would expect any 4-5 year old dog would need and no more. Holly loves children and seeks their attention all the time, and we hope she'll have a lot of hands to pet her and lavish her with love because that's when she's happiest!
While HOLLY has not been fostered with cats, she has been around them at the veterinarian's office and she basically ignored them. Truly, though, that's all we can share on that matter. However, if a cat runs -- ALL DOGS are likely be instigated by that prey drive to chase, but not necessarily harm them. It is always prudent to be mindful that rescued dogs -- and ALL DOGS -- must be monitored closely around other animals, especially at the outset.
It should also be noted that HOLLY does really well with other dogs, and eats with two others close by and has no food issues whatsoever. Our rescue would also like HOLLY to have another canine around to share her days, or a human who is home most all the time and wants a constant companion. One good thing was that these animals were always fed regularly, so they don't have many of the issues we see when we rescue stray animals who have had to fight for their food and scour dumps and garbage cans for nutrients. Although these dogs could have done so much better with so more appropriate care in their earlier years, it is very evident that they did get love and food regularly -- as much as the former "owner" could provide. But now, we've promised these dogs NOTHING BUT TRUST, HEALTH and HAPPINESS -- and we're betting that's what they will reciprocate to their two-legged families and potential other four-leggeds with whom they will share their days bright-eyed and full of love!
HOLLY has not had an accident in her kennel, but she has never been crated either. She's learning to walk on a lead every day and is doing quite well with her training. Like most Golden Mixes and smart Tollers, HOLLY is eager to please. She enjoys the car more and more each ride, and seems to relish the opportunity for new experiences as long as she's with a trusted leader that lets her know that she will always be safe and secure. After all, that's the human's job, and the dogs respond well to such confidence and patience.
Like all rescue dogs, HOLLY needs a safe and comfortable environment. HOLLY will continue to thrive and grow and blossom into the amazingly special dog she's always been -- just now out of the woods and cared for on every level. The only thing missing? A forever home of her own and endless love to celebrate her special qualities! If you think you might be a great match for HOLLY, please fill out an on-line application today contained in this bio!
HOLLY is surely a sweet mixture of all things great, Golden and Toller, and will not be available long! We honor all involved in the process, and if a proper application is filled out, a member of our rescue organization will be in touch with you immediately after a vet check has been completed. HAPPY DOGS MAKE HAPPY ADOPTERS -- so we consider your needs and situation as much as our dogs, but they are, indeed, our first priority as rescuers! We owe that to our dogs and the wonderful people who stand to be the last chapter of their rescue, and the first chapter of their new forever lives!
About Our Rescue
These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.
Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!
Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!
Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well
If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!
Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.
THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!
ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits - no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you.
