My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dexter and Carmela are a charming young pair who recently met and found they have quite a lot in common. They’re looking for a home where they can continue their relationship indefinitely. That could be a very long time, since Carmela is only 9 mos. old and Dexter is about 18 mos.

Dexter came to us first and, as with so many brown tabbies, he had a knack for instantly making friends with people. He seemed to not much care one way or the other about cats, but then he went to a new foster home and met the lovely Carmela, and he found himself quite taken with her. They now eat, play, and cuddle together. Both of them enjoy the company of the other cats in the house, but they like each other best. They also get along with the big dog who shares their home.

Dexter is an incredibly mellow guy, who is willing to get up close and personal with his people if that means he’s going get some serious petting. You might think you need to work at your computer, or read your newspaper, but what you really need to do is pick up Dexter because he needs more kitty love. It’s easy to indulge him because he’s so soft and silky and never plays rough.

Dexter can also be an explorer: he regularly goes on reconnaissance missions to make sure that the contents of any cupboard, closet or dishwasher are safe for his people. He has great stealth; possibly that wide black stripe down his back provides camouflage.

Carmela is a beautiful brunette with auburn highlights. She has the typical spunky personality and confidence of a tortoiseshell girl. She also loves attention, and she will tolerate the “one-handed pet”: with her in your lap, and one hand petting, you are allowed to use the other hand to turn the newspaper pages. This budding baker has perfected the art of kneading; just the paws, no nails. She gives wonderful hugs and kisses.

Carmela and Dexter love to play together; sharing a mouse, chasing a feather, or doing contortions around the cat tree poles. Then they cuddle up together and tune out the rest of the world. At night, they like to sleep on the bed with their people, and Carmela especially likes it if she can sneak under the covers.

Dexter and Carmela, like all ARCF cats for adoption, have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, are up to date on vaccines, and have tested negative for FeLV and FIV.

If you are interested in meeting Dexter and Carmela, please fill out the "I'm interested" form at our website, and our adoption coordinator will respond promptly. Please note that we place cats in the following counties only: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark.

Animal Rescue & Care Fund, Inc. is a small rescue organization. We rescue homeless animals only, and do not accept owner-surrendered pets.
