My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adelaide is our newest addition "special needs" dog. She is totally blind, but is being evaluated by a specialist this week to determine if it is a permanent condtion. Adelaide is a lovely, sweet, purebred yellow girl who is approximately 6 years old; she was found as a stray in the high desert. The folks at the shelter fell in love with her and wanted her rescued. They reached out, and when others said no, LR said yes! So here is Adelaide, full of life and fun, and just the sweetest, friendliest little girl you could imagine.
Addy rides quietly in her crate and does well on leash. She is friendly with other dogs (see photos) and loves all humans. She needs a permanent home with NO STAIRS due to her vision issues. She is presently being fostered by a specialist with experience training and handling dogs with vision loss. Her foster is pleased to share the following observations and photos.

Adelaide is the sweetest dog who always finds a toy or ball to bring to you. She gets along fine with my blind collie, Sam. Adelaide prefers snuggling on the couch to most activities, but is always a happy, tail-wagging lab--even when she bonks into things at her usual relaxed pace! She loves to play fetch and can always be found with a toy or tennis ball in her mouth. About the cat thing. She spent copious amounts of time tracking the "scent" of a cat--near obsessive behavior--and while not aggressive, her prey drive for cats doesn't bode well, so a house with no cats is a must. Adelaide does not require a lot of exercise, so is perfect for a quiet family disinclined to take their dog to dog parks. However, in typical lab form, she LOVES the beach. She would be content as an only dog, as she and Sam get along, but do not seek each other's company. Her foster is willing to assist any future foster or adopter with a plan to help Adelaide adapt to a new environment including ways to express her desire to go out to take care of business. She's a mellow gal looking for a FOREVER HOME to call her own.

Update 2/11/11: YIPES! Did Miss Adelaide have a surprise for us! Our dear girl is VERY pregnant--puppies will arrive within the next 10 days. And we thought she was overweight! She will have Valentine puppies that will be ready to find THEIR FOREVER HOMES around Easter. Check back for the celebratory news!

Update 2/24/2011: Adelaide is the proud mama of 8 healthy puppies. Keep checking back for details.
