Jules is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known.  He fun loving, loyal, adventurous and he will do anything for a belly rub.  He LOVES belly rubs.  He loves going for walks and he is a perfect gentleman in the car.  He loves sharing  Sonic chicken strips with you and your sweet potato skins.  He is a fantastic people dog!

We don't know what happened to Jules before he came to us but it was clear it was not good.  He has plenty of marks of abuse on him, including bullet holes.  Jules has come a long way since he was found on the streets of east Nashville running for his life.  It was clear he had never lived inside a home but it didn't take long to learn ropes and got used to normal household noises and activities, as well as how to behave in a home with a family that loved him.  Today, he is happy as a lark and enjoys not having to fend for himself and struggle for every inch of life.   The only thing that still scares him are fireworks/fire crackers.  That's because he remembers the sound and gun powder smell from when he was shot.

We also believe that whoever owned Jules wanted to make him mean by withholding food  and teasing and taunting and torturing him by starving him.  We believe that this is what made Jules food protective/aggressive.  It is really sad because Jules is otherwise really great with other dogs and cats as he is great with people.  Please understand he is only food aggressive toward dogs.  NOT humans.  I can put my hand in his bowl all day long and he accepts is like it was no big deal - not a grumble out of the sweet boy.   On walks he will happily greet other dogs.  (he plays well with them at the rescue)  He's always a favorite on adoption days where other vendors love having him and indeed ask to have him spend the day with them.   He loves being petted and hugged by adults and children alike.

We are looking for one of two types of homes/families for him:
       1) Either as an only dog.  Even though he enjoys dogs especially small female ones  he loves his human even better and would be perfectly alright with just them.
       2) Or someone who is very experienced in bully dogs, big dogs, strong dogs.  And someone who knows how to deal with dogs who have food protection/aggression issues.  It is easy to manage by crating him during feeding and never leaving any food sources laying out where other dogs can get to it. Jules' best friend is a small terrier who bosses him around and he lets her lead him around by his silly nose.  He has never threatened to harm her even when she stole his hoof.  She can steel his hoof any day and he's OK with it.

Jules is well behaved and for treats he sits alongside other dogs without lunging after them or threatening them. He politely waits his turn.  His training is impecable.

Jules will be adopted to an inside forever home only. As a companion to a dog he will be adopted to a small female dog only.  6 ft fence required.  Home owners only.  No rentals please.  Reference and vet checks, as well as home visit are required.  Jules's adoption fee of $200 will be used to help other abused and abandoned dogs like him.
