My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Emma is a yorkie mix girl who has been moved around too much in in her young life so she is hoping for her forever home soon. She is 2 years old and weighs 10 pounds. We aren't sure of her breed mix but she may have some chihuahua or terrier. Emma thrives on positive attention and loves to be with her people. She is getting along with the other small dogs in her foster home but she would also enjoy being the only dog. Emma is fine with cats. One of her favorite things to do is to play with toys. Foster mom says Emma is a real sweetheart with herself son, husband, and 11 year old son. She jumps up into their laps for some cuddling and to give kisses. Emma is house trained on a schedule and she hates being in a crate and doesn't need to be crated. Emma will do best in a home with someone who works at home or is a stay-at-home person. A fenced yard is required for yorkies as they are terriers who love to fun and sniff in the yard. Emma is with a 501c3 non profit rescue. She had NO veterinary care prior to coming into rescue. Her $200 adoption fee is to cover her full veterinary care including spay, heartworm test and pill, shots, worming, and HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.

• Homeowners: Required

• Status of adopter: Mature adult

• Previous dog owning experience: Required

• Age of children: 10 and up

• Another dog in the home: Would prefer to be only dog

• Cat(s) in the home: Not cat tested but likely to chase

• Fenced yard: Required

• Time alone on work days: Really needs someone home much of the time as she has had little attention most of her life.
