Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Even though Lab Rescue has only had Stanley briefly, his physical state tells us much about his neglected past. Stanley is underweight, has less-than-wonderful fur, and seems to have chewed excessively. It appears that Stanley was kept in a kennel most of his life with little human interaction, as he doesn't even respond to his name.
Stanley needs a ton of TLC. He so wants to please whoever treats him well, but knows no commands. He isn't the least bit mean and seems to like other dogs, though their presence distracted his attention. He needs to learn what it means to be loved and treated well. Stanley is looking for a foster with abundant TLC to give a delightful dog with a blank slate, and then a FOREVER HOME where he can be treated the way he should have been treated from birth!
Update 2/23/2011: Stanley is still in boarding awaiting a foster home, but one of our wonderful LR volunteers who walks dogs in boarding took Stanley to the park today. She reports that Stanley is still very thin, but his fur is beginning to grow back in. His new fur is rich brown with red highlights--he will be amazingly handsome when he overcomes the effects of neglect and abuse. At the park, children seemed to be a new experience for Stanley. He hasn't had all his immunizations yet because his immune system has been compromised by his prior mistreatment, and he needs to be healthy before he can get those shots. Stanley LOVED the park and showed keen interest in the ducks! This people-loving, dog-loving guy will make a wonderful family pet once he's fully fit and healthy as nature intended. He is such a nice dog for one that has suffered so much abuse in life. Check back for updates on Stanley.
