My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MAY 20TH, 2011. FRANKIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Frankie is a big sweetheart of a dog who was saved from the shelter on the day he was to lose his life. Frankie is affectionate with his people and friendly with new people. He would like nothing more than a comfy dog bed and a bone to chew on. We think Frankie is approximately 18 months old and is likely a Dogo Argentino or Dogo X. At 80lbs Frankie will need a confident owner with some large dog, preferably mastiff experience who can be a solid leader for him. Frankie is a STRONG dog. He is learning to walk on a no pull harness but it is still a work in progress. Obedience classes and some patient training will work wonders on this dog and will be a requirement of his adoption. Frankie is under experienced in the world which leads him to act timid and is easily spooked as he learns about living in the city. As such, he needs an owner who can introduce him to new experiences with patience. He is good with friendly dogs and currently lives contently with 2 foster siblings, a male and a female. He has been tested with cats and did ok, but we wouldn't trust him alone with one as he doesn't know his own size and strength and might hurt a cat. He is also much too timid and large for small children. Frankie does currently have an injury to one of his knees so he currently cannot be off leash, and needs to avoid heavy exercise or jumping as it heals. We are hoping that with limited exercise for a few months, that the injury will heal without surgery. If necessary, we will cover surgery to his currently injured knee.

Frankie's ideal home will have mastiff experience (or at least large dog experience) Dogo's are not a first time dog owner breed, a fenced yard, and possibly a confident calm female dog (possibly a bully breed or mastiff) to show him the ropes and help him understand that the world is as scary as he thinks. Frankie won't be adopted to a home with small children or cats. If you aren't familiar with the Dogo breed, please read up on them before inquiring about Frankie.

If you're interested in adopting Frankie, please email us at crossourpaws@yahoo.ca or download an adoption application, fill it out and send it back to us. Or email bully buddies at bullybuddies@gmail.com.
