Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dewey is a super handsome and sweet Australian cattle dog mix boy. He has the red heeler coloring, and long legs from some other breed in his mix (shepherd? retriever? spaniel? who knows); Dewey weighs roughly 55 pounds. He was born 10/20/08, and has lived with one family since he was just 6 weeks old... but now he must find a new home because his family is moving where Dewey cannot go. He is staying with his original family in an "owner foster" situation for us, and we all hope he will find his new home before he has to be left behind and moved into the shelter.
Dewey is a very smart boy, with a stubborn streak (ha). He loves people, is very affectionate, and enjoys sleeping next to his peoples' bed. Dewey is housetrained and knows "sit" and "lie down" pretty well. He does NOT like to be left home alone, and can get into a little trouble with the garbage or chewing, so he's asked us to find him a home where the people don't have to go to work and leave him alone all day long.
He hasn't had any experience with cats... he's smart enough that it should be easy to teach him that cats are part of his family too, BUT the heeler in him may cause him to want to chase and "herd" cats. He would DEFINITELY enjoy chasing deer, if he weren't safely contained in a fenced yard. What he wants most of all is to just hang out with his people... are you a person who wants a fabulous doggie sidekick? Dewey is volunteering to fill the position!
He absolutely loves playing fetch and playing tug-o-war; he is also an amazing jumper, as you will see in his video.
Like all our adult pet placements, Dewey comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.
Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $75; more gratefully accepted!) NOTE: Dewey's regular dog vaccine will expire in July 2011, but his rabies vaccine will be current until July 2013.
Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
