Commander's Story...

Hi! My name is Commander! I'm a very happy dog - so happy, you have no idea. These nice people saved me from a horrible start in life. My former owner debarked me, which is having my vocal chords cut so my bark sounds kinda like a frog croaking, and they cropped my ears very short. They didn't give me heartworm prevention so I had to go through heartworm treatment to save my life. But now I live with people who take good care of me while I look for a forever home. I am friendly, loving and affectionate. I have a best friend named Jarvis. He's a shepherd mix - the big goofy mutt in the photo with me. I don't like all other dogs, but I sure love Jarvis. I think we click so well because we're both big goofy jugheads. We love to go for walks and to play. We love belly rubs and riding in the car. I am very well behaved at adoption events. I like to greet everyone, lean on them and get my back scratched. I entertained everyone while I played in the snow. I like to dive my face into it, take a big mouth full and keep on trotting while my head is covered in snow, tail wagging with a big smile. I love people and everyone says, "He's just a big teddy bear." I'm very mild-mannered, except when I see some other large male dogs. I don't like all other big dogs, except my Jarvis buddy. I do love the little female yorkie and shitzu that live with me in foster care. I get along with the cat too. I need someone who wants to love a big dog, give me affection and show me the love and patience I deserve. I'm just looking for someone to love. Could that be you? Give me a chance. I'm a really good boy and I'll be your devoted, loving best friend for life! I'm vaccinated, neutered, heartworm negative, weigh 74 lbs and I'm ready to go! Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $100.

Adoption and Foster Care Application:

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at the link above or send an email to to tell us which pet you're interested in and we'll send you a questionnaire that will help us make the best match for you and your new pet. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. This is a pending period to give your dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Commander, a Troy American Staffordshire Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a American Staffordshire Terrier for sale in Troy, or seeking a American Staffordshire Terrier dog from a breeder in Troy.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Troy already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Troy breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even American Staffordshire Terrier breeders who help with American Staffordshire Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Troy paves the way for another one to be saved.
