My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Layla is an 1 1/2 year old black female with cropped and silly ears. She has some white markings and intense light eyes. Layla, and her brother Rajah, came in to rescue due to the terminal illness of their owner. Layla is a petite girl who had been living outside for a few months but she has remembered most of her inside rules. She is very calm for her age and has been a wonderful house guest, though she was a bit nervous for the first week with all of the changes, including her spay. If you need to correct her, a simple "uh, uh" or "no, no" will stop her. She likes to cuddle with you on the couch. We have discovered a few things in the time she has been in the foster home. First, we have learned that Layla LOVES children! She has met her foster's 6 year old and 9 month old great-nephews and she just can’t get enough of them. We have also learned that although she likes the company of dogs, she would prefer a dog who will run and play as long as he does not get too rough with her. She has met her foster grandmother’s Chihuahua, who was quite mouthy with her and she looked at him as if to say "what’s all this ruckus about?" She also met one of the cats and sniffed him and walked away. We were told that she has lived with all sizes of dogs, cats and some farm animals. Layla had never really been in a car or on a leash but with her calm, gentle nature she does well with both – though she could use some leash training as she wanders. Layla has never growled or raised a hair no matter what the situation. She is learning what treats are and takes them gently from you. She is also learning to play with toys. She is crate trained, especially since she knows she is getting a kong with peanut butter. A training class will be a condition of her adoption as it will boost her confidence and provide a bonding experience. Layla’s name means "dark beauty" and she is that inside and out. If you are looking for a cuddling, kissing, sweet, calm companion, Layla is the girl for you! We would prefer that Layla be placed in a home with either children or another calm dog.
