CHARLIE's Story...
the Loyal Lion Dog
the Loyal Lion Dog
This is the invincible Charlie- the Lion Dog. Charlie a true character of a dog. He is a Pekingese mixed perhaps with a Shih Tzu or Poodle (with the coat of a lamb)- a royal and handsome mix. Charlie is about 2 years old; a solid 30lbs.
Charlie is confident, optimistic, calm, smart, dutiful, reliable and loyal to the core. He will keep watch quietly and therefore makes a lovely companion. He is loving and although he appreciates the body rugs, he does not demand affection and is happy just to be by your side. Charlie's appearance is also endearing He has a perfectly round head with warm brown eyes and his head seems to swivel to look around, like a cartoon of a chinese lion-dog. Charlie's fur is actually hair like a lamb. We keep it cut short so it's like a lamb and soft and likely would be beautiful if left to grow long and groomed, etc. Charlie has an endearing underbite. Please read the LEGEND OF THE PEKE DOG below as it pretty well describes Charlie and why he's like living with a big dog/lion in a compact body.
Charlie was found late at night on a busy highway in downtown Los Angeles in neglected condition but is great now and fostering with a family and other dogs in Hollywood. He is neutered, updated on shots, microchipped and healthy.
LEGEND OF THE PEKE DOG A lion and a marmoset fell in love. But the lion was too large. The lion went to the Buddha and told him of his woes. The Buddha allowed the lion to shrink down to the size of the marmoset. And the Pekingese was the result. Another legend says that the Peke resulted from the mating of a and a monkey, getting its nobleness and coat from the former and its ungainly walk from the latter. Because the Pekingese was believed to have originated from the Buddha, he was a temple dog. As such, he was not a mere toy. He was made compact so that he could go after and destroy little demons that might infest the palace or temple. And his heart was big so that he could destroy even the largest and fiercest.
