Polar's Story...
Please contact Cathy (cathrynmcd@aol.com) for more information about this pet.

***Update 9/2012:  Polar is doing great but is a special needs kitty.  He still battles with chronic sinus infections but they generally don't slow him down.  He has been to multiple vets and it has been determined that his breathing will likely always sound 'snarky' and his will continue to get chronic sinus infections.  He has been on several different meds and they seem to help when he has a sinus infection flare up.  He is a sweet boy once he learns to trust you.  There are not many people who are able to pick him up, and the few that are able only get the pleasure of doing so for a very short time before he wants down.  He loves being petted and is quite the curious boy.  Loves 'answering' the phone at our adoption center.  He'll give you a little smack or sometimes a little love bite if you stop petting him before he is ready.  He is highly food motivated and that is how we get him to take his meds when needed and how we get him into carriers to go to the vet.  He also loves to play and bat at things.

**Update 7/27/11: Polar is doing wonderfully. He loves being petted and does have his favorites when it comes to the volunteers. He is still a little unsure about being picked up but he adores receiving attention. He is very sweet, has a cute little meow and will sometimes try to smack us with his paw if we stop petting him before he's 'done' being petted!

**Update 4/22/11: Oh my, It is hard to believe the progress that this little boy has made! He can still be a bit foot shy if he's down on the ground playing, but when he is in a cage or on a cat tree he hardly ever runs away when you approach him anymore! If he likes you, he'll even call out to you when you walk by and request that you pet him! He is such an adorable sweetheart who has been through so much in his past that he just wants a forever home! He'll probably still need a bit of an adjustment period but it will certainly be worth it! Also, he LOVES to play.

***3/15/2011: Polar has a sad story. We don't know anything about his life before he was found, but we can assume that it was not a very good one. He was found in the Silver Lake area outside in someone’s driveway where was just standing there and would not move. He came to us with a very bad URI and was very lethargic (close to death). He suffered frost bite on his ears & paw pads. His ears are very short now due to the frostbite, about half of both of his ears are gone. His feet have healed up well. On to Polar's personality, he is shy & scared of people & new environments at first but once you get him past the initial shyness he is a very sweet boy. Polar is currently at the adoption center where we are working very hard with this shy little boy. Upon approach, he will try to flee and will hiss and growl, however, once you start petting him and scratching his back, he starts purring and purring. He won't stop the purring until you stop the petting. He rolls around and even drools while you pet him--he just loves it. He is going to need a special home where someone will work with him and show him that whatever bad experiences he had in the past can be forgotten and that people really are ok. This little boy has a ton of potential to be a great little kitty, he just needs someone to commit some love, time and patience to him. He has soft, rabbit-like fur and the cutest grey markings. We are unsure about how he would do with dogs, other cats seem to be ok, no small children but school age kids if well behaved seem to be ok. Polar is neutered and up to date on shots. You can meet him at our adoption center.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Process

Every kitten is tested for Feline Leukemia and adult cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. All cats are de-wormed, de-fleaed and have received a Distemper vaccine. With every adoption, we work with you to ensure every phase of introducing your kitten or cat into your home is smooth and pleasant.

Step One
After you have found the perfect fit, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire. Your responses are reviewed and if the fit is good for both you and the kitty or cat, you move on to the next step which is the Adoption Agreement.

Step Two
The Adoption Agreement is the binding contract between you and Kindred Kitties for the adoption of your new family member. A tax deductible donation to Kindred Kitties is requested. You will be given a Certificate for a free health check and if the cat/kitten is not yet spayed, you will receive a Spay/Neuter Certificate offering discounts at a number of local veterinarians.

One Cat (over 1 year old) = $60.00 or two for $100.00

One Kittens (under a year) = $80.00 or two for $120.00

If spay/neuter date is within two weeks of adoption date, it will be included with adoption fee.

Step Three
Make sure you have everything you need for your new family member before you bring your kitten or cat home. A volunteer will be able to assist you. Here is a list of things you will need:

Litter pan, litter and scooper
Food (dry and/or wet) appropriate for the age of your kitty
Food and water bowls
Toys (for socializing)
Bed or blanket
A quiet secure room for them to become acclimated with their new home
Lots of love and affection
