My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated again 12-21-12

Well, what we thougth was a forever home for Mambo has once again, been a mistake! He is such a loving boy, not shy anymore, and oh so happy. but he pee'd on the couch twice ( never mind that they left him on the couch when they were gone because he would not jump off). and he threw up occassionally. Now I ask you, are these reasons to return a dog? NO, but if they did not want him, better he be returned to us!

He is now using the dog steps, sleeping in bed with me, and crowding my pillow! Ha

He was due for heartworm test and vaccines and needed his teeth cleaned. all of these things are now done and he is once again loking for a "forever home".

His adoption fee is $150.00 and please note, that we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 10 years old. We do require a securely fenced yard, and all other dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations unless there is a medical reason..........

He is fostered with Barb

Mambo is very shy and quiet. He has issues with trust and his trust has to be earned. but when you take the time, it is so worth it. Mambo cocks his head when you talk to him and he stretches like a cat. He likes to bury himself under a blanket in a dog bed to sleep. He prefers his dinner away from the others, in private.
He does play with the other dogs if they don't get too rough. Mambo comes to us for kisses and back scratches often. He is really a sweet boy.

UPDATED 3-20-11
Good news, Mambo has moved to a new foster home, where he has come out of his scardey boy mode, and is now playful, and loving the outdoors, etc. His first day there he went to Lowes and worked in the backyard and even stopped by Sonic for a hamburger!!!
He will soon be ready for a home of his own. At my home, it may have been that there were too many dogs, or just that we was low in the pack order, but he was a shy boy! NO MORE!!!!

I would like you to meet the second Chihuahua who was dumped on my porch a week or so ago. I call them "The Cereal Box boys" . Because they were left in a cardboard box that had held cereal boxes.
The day they were left on the porch, I had seen the box but was in a hurry and so when I came back two hours later, I went to investigate. As I came around the corner of the house, two little heads popped up. They were so frightened. And they had remained in the box. Probably waiting for their owner to come back for them. SO SAD!!!!!!!
I was angry that someone had done that, until I saw the condition they were in! Mambo was the worst. He had long nails and they were crippling his toes.
His coat was in terrible shape, fleas were jumping all in the box. He had so much dirt in his ears, and was so thin. His mouth was badly infected and full of rotten teeth. He sqealled when touched as if he was expecting something terrible to come!
And still, neither of them offered to bite.
I brought him into the house and we had a nice bath, a bowl of good food, and then went to the vet.
Sadly, we found he was heartworm positive.
He was not neutered of course, and had a navel nernia. He is now vetted- neutered, microchipped, teeth cleaned, vaccines done, etc.
He wants so badly to be loved. He would not let me touch him much in the beginning but now sleeps with me, and puts his feet on my chair to be petted or picked up.
He has a long way to go before he becomes a confident happy boy. He also starts his heartworm treatment next week.
He is approx, 5-7 years old. He is fawn, a stout little guy, weighing 5 pounds. He has a apple head and BIG green eyes.
His adoption fee is $150.00
Please note that we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 10 years old.
And we require a fenced yard.

Update 11-5-10
Mambo has now completed his treatment for heartworms. He will need to stay calm for the next 30 days, and then he will be able to start his monthly heartworm prevention pills, ( Interceptor).
So he is ready for adoption now.........
