My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This big boy may not be the prettiest doxie we have ever had, but he sure is pretty on the inside where it really counts. He had belonged to an elderly woman whose family turned him out onto the street. Some kind neighbors eventually gave him a temporary home in a garage until he made his way into rescue.

Gus (formerly named Rhino) came to us with a huge heart, but he also came with huge fatty lumps, bad teeth, a bad coat and a stump tail. We’ve gotten him a complete dental, we’ve had his fatty lumps removed, and we’ve treated him for his non-contagious manage. Alas, we couldn’t do anything about his stump tail which appears to have been traumatically amputated at some point in his life.

Gus is a very friendly, easy going dog who is grateful for any attention or kindness. He walks nicely on a leash and he gets along well with his fellow dachshunds. (He is much less fond of the big dog in his foster home). He would be equally happy to be an only dog or to have a doxie sibling or two. He’s an easy dog who loves his crate and is housebroken.

Gus is looking for a home where someone will judge him for who is, not what he looks like. He has a sweet soul and all he wants is to be loved.
