Nellie's Story...
Nellie has a very loving, gentle disposition. She just wants to be a cuddle-bug and best friend to every person she meets. She also has a strong maternal instinct (see her video below). We believe that Nellie is a Dachshund-Terrier mix. She has a soft coat and is a calm, incredibly gentle little dog weighing just over 10 lbs. She is a young adult dog that would enjoy being a single companion but would be fine with another dog.

Nellie is very friendly towards everyone she sees including children of all ages. When on a walk she simply wants to stop and say hello to everyone she meets and steal a hug. She is in no way aggressive towards people and once she settled in has been enjoying the play with her dog foster siblings. She has not been tested with cats but we see no reason that she would have any problem with any other household pet.

Nellie has not been crated at any time in her foster home and has been a perfect little lady. She is very quiet in the home, well mannered and trustworthy. She will always be there at the door waiting to greet you when you get home. She is well on her way to being completely house trained and sleeps peacefully through the night with no issues. She is a lapdog first and foremost and will never leave your side when she is with you and will wait patiently for your return when you are out. She never says no to a tummy rub but is not intrusive or demanding and is just as happy and content to just be near you.

She does love going for walks and expanding her social circle of people. She has moderate energy and will still enjoy a daily walk. She would enjoy respectful children of any age but is not an overly active dog although she does like to play at times. She is a young adult believed to be not much over a year old, with pearly white teeth and a soft, healthy coat.

Nellie seems to have had some training and always comes when called and walks very nicely on her leash. She is a very relaxed walker and would be good for someone that just wants to saunter around town, rather than as a running partner. We think Nellie would do best as an only dog so she could get all the attention for herself and because she is not really interested in playing with dogs and saves all her attention and loyalty for her person.

If you think this little love-bug would be a good choice for your family, please go to our website at and submit an application for consideration.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Nellie, a Hamilton Dachshund/Terrier (Unknown Type, Small) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund/Terrier (Unknown Type, Small) for sale in Hamilton, or seeking a Dachshund/Terrier (Unknown Type, Small) dog from a breeder in Hamilton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hamilton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hamilton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund/Terrier (Unknown Type, Small) breeders who help with Dachshund/Terrier (Unknown Type, Small) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hamilton paves the way for another one to be saved.
