Max's Story...
Sadly, these two doggies are looking for a new home. Their guardian, Cate, was killed in a car accident in mid-October 2006. She was 52 years old. It is a great loss for her pets and for the animal rescue community. Cate always had dogs and was involved with rescuing and foster many over the years. She volunteered for the Berkeley Animal Shelter, Smiley Dog and Noah's Wish. Additionally, she took part in the Katrina animal rescue efforts. Cate also taught the dog walking classes at the Berkeley Shelter. Both of her pooches are from that shelter. Cate goodheartedly took on these dogs because they were in need of special care.
Shiloh is about 6 yrs old and Max the cattle dog mix is about 7 yrs. More about the dogs... Both dogs are crate-trained and housebroken. They are affectionate and good walking on the leash. Max and Shiloh love to ride in the car and would zip around with Cate in her VW Rabbit. Though they are playful with each other they can both be selective about other dogs. Shiloh is a sweet boy who had a hard luck life before Cate adopted him. He is shy and fearful at times. He seems to gain confidence from Max as they are attached to each other. Max on the other hand tends to be protective of her owner and this needs to be managed as Cate did so well. The dogs could be placed separately but might do best together. These dogs may not be perfect but they were well-loved and cared for by their mom, Cate who believed they deserved a chance to get out of the shelter and into a better life. We're hoping someone will have the heart to give Shiloh and Max a new home. We're determined to place them in memory of Cate and all her generous and great work.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Max, a Berkeley Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Cattle Dog for sale in Berkeley, or seeking a Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Berkeley.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Berkeley already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Berkeley breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Cattle Dog breeders who help with Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Berkeley paves the way for another one to be saved.
