Dexter's Story...
Dexter is Located in Merrit Island, Florida

Dexter is a 3 year old, male, black and tan German Shepherd. Dexter was originally an owner surrender to a high kill animal shelter. The owner had given Dexter up due to extreme health issues that resulted in the former owner being placed into a Nursing Home. The shelter contacted our Rescue for assistance because they simply did not have any room and therefore poor Dexter was subject to be put down. Luckily for us we did have a foster home available and this is where Dexter is currently thriving. Dexter is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations, heartworm, flea and tick preventative.

Dexter’s foster dad reports that it was apparent that Dexter had received very little in the way of training. He acted very much like a puppy. He is very intelligent and eager to learn so he is rapidly making up for his previous lack of training. He is learning basic commands, play activities and for exercise now runs alongside while his foster dad bike rides. His foster environment contains 3 other Shepherds and he has fit in nicely with no conflicts. He enjoys the interaction and playing with his furry playmates. Tug toys and chasing each other around the yard seem to be his favorite activities. He is not crate trained but does very well if left alone in the house.

Dexter is a very affectionate and loving boy but needs to know his boundaries of he will wind up in your lap. Dexter would do great with an experienced German Shepherd owner as he bonds very much with one person. Dexter is still learning good behavior and sometimes when excited he will tend to play a little rough. He is getting better each day as his training progresses but he may not do well around small dogs/cats or small children because of his energy level. If you think you would like to provide Dexter with a home filled with love and plenty of activity please email Please

All dogs in rescue are temperament tested and have basic obedience implemented as a part of their daily routine. All behavioral issues are dealt with according to each case scenario. All dogs prior to going home are up to date on all vaccinations, neutered and or spayed, and microchipped.
