My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I’m called Handsome Hansel! My picture does not do me justice. My coat is a shiny, sleek black and I am a real love bug! I was picked up by Animal Control up north dragging my leash. The shelter held me for 6 weeks hoping my owners would come to get me. They never showed up. I get along fine with the other dogs in my foster home. I was definitely someone’s pet, because I am completely housebroken and use the doggie door. I am a small standard, but way too skinny! Probably from being on the streets, I only weighed 13 lb. at my initial vet appointment. Coming in to rescue, I was un-neutered and had dirty teeth. But all of that was taken care of last week. Boy, the vet’s office is a scary place! I grabbed at the strange people who were trying to hold me still! My foster mom found out I do not bite, though. When I first came here, I was leery of everyone! I did a lot of that snapping, but I just grab your hand! I don’t chomp down. I warm up to people pretty quickly if they do not grab at me-just let me come to you! I think Hansel would do well with older children for this reason. Then I will become your best buddy! I love to go for walks! Being a young guy, I have plenty of energy! The vet also pronounced me Heartworm neg. and there were no parasites either. Now I’m on HW preventative and Frontline Plus. I got my first shots, so I’m ready to go to my new home for a $250.00 adoption fee. I will be needing my 2nd round of shots in about a month. UPDATE: Today his cone came off. It has been 10 days since his surgery. He will get his final shots the 25th of this month, then he’ll be all set for a new home. He is getting more socialized. Because all the other dogs here are seniors, Hansel and I take a long walk in the evening. He’s very inquisitive! Our evening walks take a long time for that reason. Hansel has to sniff every blade of grass along the way. If we happen to pass people he wants to check them out. If they seem receptive and ask if they can pet him, I just tell them to let him sniff their hands and then the can pet him- Just no sudden movements.Hansel is in a foster home in Vineland, NJ. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail his foster mom at DoxieDivaDiana1@verizon.net.
