Mr. Beagle Bassett's Story...
Mr. Beagle/Bassett was found early last winter after he'd been abandoned. He broke his leg when a horse in the foster family ran buy and he was in the way. After a cast and recouperation he was fine until two weeks later the kids were playing outdoors in the snow (which we never have here...it was deep!) and he dislocated that leg. The vet wasn't able to get it to stay in so he decided that Mr. Beagle needed surgery to repair it. Our boy had his surgery and hasn't put complete weight on it since it's completely healed so it's just going to be a permanent condition. (grrr!) It causes him no pain and there's nothing odd about it except he uses it sparingly. The only option we had to cosmetically fix it now would be to amputate it but because the poor guy has alread y been through a cast, a dislocation and one surgery we don't have the heart to put him though an amputation.

His foster family that originally found him has lovingly kept him with them through all of this. He's crate trained and housebroken and has a wonderful personality, great with kids, cats and dogs (and even horses!) His foster mom's father now needs live in medical care from his family, meaning they've had to take MBB with them...it's just a lot to put on them right now!

Needless to say, Mr. Beagle needs a home that will love him. We are offering him for a reduced adoption fee. All the money that has been paid out toward his first broken leg and his surgery to pin it is basically a wash at this point and we're more concerned that he get a good home and be out of harms way. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Mr. Beagle Bassett, a Portland Beagle/Basset Hound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Beagle/Basset Hound for sale in Portland, or seeking a Beagle/Basset Hound dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Beagle/Basset Hound breeders who help with Beagle/Basset Hound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
