My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bert Puggle - Puggle - male/neutered - young (approx. 2 years of age) - brown and white coat with speckles - short, plush coat - 24 pounds

Bert is a young puggle whose demeanor reflects a dog who is very well pleased with himself. He is out-going, easy natured, handsome, and friendly.

Sturdy, fun, self-important and extremely endearing, Bert is also affectionate and responsive. Bert was found capering about an abandoned property with a larger, female dog; he ran happily to an Animal Control officer, accepting treats eagerly and gratefully, and it was assumed that the pair had simply left home for the day on an adventure. They were taken to Animal Control for safe-keeping, with a strong expectation that their humans would claim them shortly.

Sadly, such was not the case. After weeks had passed, and no one came looking for Bert or his friend, Animal Control notified our rescue group that the facility was now full, and that Bert and his companion's futures were at risk. Fortunately, we were able to take both dogs into rescue care.

Bert is a joyful, trusting little guy. He appeared to be the guide and point-man for his companion, and when he "surrendered" to the Animal Control Officer, he seemed to assure his companion that everything would be fine. His faith and optimism are very touching to our volunteers.

Bert is well-socialized, both with humans and with other dogs; his relationship to cats is untested, and therefore unknown to us. What we can say about Bert is that he has steady, open, honest eye contact. He loves to be handled and petted. He moves in a proud, prancing kind of style. Bert has a beautiful, plush coat and an expressive face. His health is excellent.

We are grateful for our partnership with Animal Control in their efforts to respond to the rising number of homeless and abandoned dogs. And we are proud of Bert, whose instinct to go to humans for help showed not only his good sense, but an innocent faith in expecting good. Bert will reward his committed adopter(s) with the devoted bond of a plucky, intelligent, trusting and gentle soul.
