My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Please note: we do not have a physical location, we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.**

HARPER is a sweetie. She is a mix of Lab and Beagle and is five years old. Harper is well-mannered, does well on a leash and loves daily walks. She is a playful dog who enjoys time in the shelter yard. Harper is a bright dog and knows the sit, down and come commands and appears to be housebroken. She is so affectionate, has a gentle personality and loves to be held and cuddled. Harper is great with people of all ages and also gets along with other dogs. She is spayed, HW negative, wormed, microchipped and current on all vaccinations.

Her former foster says, "Harper was just a wonderful dog. She did not bark or have any separation anxiety symptoms. She is very loving and gets along with other dogs. We had other dogs coming and going while she was here and she had no trouble with any of them. She had no trouble learning to use the doggie door and had no accidents in the house. No digging in the yard. She could be playful but was pretty calm."

Harper has lived with older children in her former home. Unfortunately, there were allergies/asthma in the household and she could not live there anymore. She has been polite and curious with some cats she was introduced to. She lived with another dog in her prior house and is doing well in her foster home with the dogs there. She is such a sweet and gentle soul and deserves to find a loving home.

Her Maine foster mom shares, "Wow! What a girl!! Have you seen this face?? This is one sweet little dog packed into the perfect sized companion. Harper is a southern lady who made the trip up to Maine last weekend and has been getting used to the snow because there's no choice! Nothing like being thrown in the deep end of the snow bank! We had more snow yesterday than she is tall, but after a few days of indecision, she's right out there bounding through it like the big dogs! Of course, she does it with the dignity of a souther belle, not the goofiness of some 'other' dogs around here.

She's a smart chicky who has already figured out the dog door into the basement and then the second one out into the yard. She's been trained before and knows "sit" and "lay down". We're working on "off", but I'm also the one who taught her to jump up onto the bed. Now its her favorite place! She's content to just hang out with you but she's also ready to play if you want. She's wonderful in the car, not a peep or a whine, and she doesn't try to crawl across the seats and get at my burger before I can. She's a watcher, like her Border Collie ancestors, and happy to just wait and observe. She's also got a lot of Beagle in her besides her obvious body shape and size. She took to squeaky stuffed animals like it was her birthday! She only barks when she's outside and sees someone, well, to bark at. She went bonkers when my 8 year old niece and her friend came over. The first time, she didn't leave their sides. The second time was during the snowstorm and she was reallllllllyyyyyy torn between squealing girls outside and warm tootsies. She's just a pleasure to have around. She's so soft. She looks at you with totally adoring eyes. When she wants a pet, she comes over quietly and just gives your hand a nudge. When you start petting her, she slowly falls asleep and slides over like she's turned to jelley. Anyone or family would be lucky to have her. She'd even make a good companion for an older person because she's also quite polite on a leash and truly a gentle soul."
