My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Calliope
1 yo Female Odd Eyed White Exotic Shorthair Persian

Calliope means beautiful voice. That's me! I'm beautiful and I have a pretty voice. Well, I'll be back to my beautiful self, soon. The shelter spayed me, and then I got sick while i was there. That was a lot of trauma and it was almost too much for me. I hated people, so it took a lot of expertise and patience to syringe feed me 4 times a day for over a month. Finally, one day, I decided I didn't want to die, and started talking to my foster mom. She was pretty happy. Now, I follow her everywhere. I get a little nervous when she picks me up, but boy, do I love those tummy rubs. I like canned food even better, though. Read my amazing story below. Being so sick, I lost a lot of the hair on my face. Soon it will grow back, I'll gain weight, and you will hardly recognize me when you come to take me home! I'm really not much more than a kitten, so I should bounce back pretty quickly. Read the story of my family of 80 cats....

I lived in a home with 80 cats … and some people in Orange County. Can you believe it? EIGHTY! Animal Control was called in because the neighbors could smell us three homes away. The newspaper even wrote about us and called it a “Breeder/Hoarder Situation”. Doesn't sound really good, does it? So, these dudes came along and tagged us, bagged us, and dragged us off to the biggest animal shelter you've ever seen. We were really scared, and hissing and spitting the whole time.

From there, 30 of us made it to safety at a place called Rescue. The shelter wouldn't let the Rescuers put us in our carriers for the trip. They had to stand outside while the shelter staff used nets, and these claw thingies to drag us into our carriers. We were SO scared! Some of us went to Cat House on the Kings in Fresno, where they will be cared for until foster or adoptive homes will come for them. A few of us got lucky and went straight into a foster home. I'm not sure what happened to the rest of my family. All of us got exposed to a nasty virus in the shelter and we got REALLY sick!

I'm so glad I had a great foster mom. She spent an entire month syringe feeding me four times a day. Even when I was trying to kill her, she patiently cared for me. She wasn't always happy with me and even said a few words I'd never heard before, but she kept with it and now she loves us a LOT. Eventually, all of us realized that no one was going to hurt us here, and we really had a pretty good gig. So, we've lightened up and are really starting to enjoy life. We're being a lot nicer to our foster mom these days, and she says she's happy when we call to her when she comes to feed us. Our coats are growing back and you'd hardly even know we'd ever been sick. Looks like we're on our way to becoming healthy, happy, and ready for a new forever home! Just think, a family of our own …
