My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello everyone, my name is Merigold (Meri for short) and am 18-24 months old. I was rescued by two marvelous ladies from a local shelter. My previous owners had mistreated me, moved off and left me in a 4x4 pen with no food or water. When the shelter personnel came, I was "starving" and very angry. They thought they were going to have to use the stick noose on me until someone suggested offering food. Well, when they did that I became docile and manageable and their "true friend." Right now, I'm in a really great place where I get plenty of food, exercise, and attention. I am current on all my inoculations, HW negative and get Heartgard on a monthly basis; I will be spayed very soon. I know, by looking at my pictures, I'm on the thin side; however, the ladies that rescued me from the shelter and the people where I live are working on my weight and as a result my coat is looking so good (it was kinda bad when I first came). One of the ladies that rescued me from the shelter takes me for long walks (3 miles) and I really love that. She uses a flexi-lead and I can range out ahead of her and check out all the "doggie notes" that have been left on trees and in the grass. When she jogs I am very careful to stay in place right beside her or range out slightly ahead so neither of us falls down. I love to be groomed - brushed, face washed (including ears), and will grudgingly let my feet be handled (I'm getting better). Unfortunately, there are some men that I do not like (I back away) - those that have long hair, no shirt, shorts, and overweight; however, I am learning that it is OK to have these characteristics. I walk well on my leash and am prompt to take care of my duties - I love to receive treats and respond very well to them in training. In fact, I know sit, down, beginnings of sit/down stay and come (you better be ready when you say come because I want my treat soon as I get there). I've been exposed to cats and while I've never had the opportunity to chase; I am extremely interested in them. As to children, I think I like them; however, I've not been around too many (the rescue ladies are working on that). I am a quick learner and would do great in obedience or agility. As soon as I am spayed, I'll be ready to come to your home as a "forever companion," - I'm waiting to hear from you - don't let me down.
