My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mindy 20 mo Maltese/Yorkie mix. spayed female

Poor little Mindy. She was so terrified the day we found her. We were doing a shelter walk through identifying purebred cats and we just asked to walk through their intake room. There she was on the bottom tier, in a room with 30 other barking little dogs. She was so frightened she was shaking all over. She had just been dumped by her family that day. We couldn't wait another minute and decided to become dog fosters just this once. She was a mess when we got her. Covered with fleas, skin allergies had caused her to be bald on her rump and a couple of other areas. And she was dirty, too.
By the first evening home she was sitting on our laps and asking for tummy rubs. The next day she got a bath, and by that afternoon she was enjoying walks in the neighborhood. She is still a gentle little diva that wants lots of TLC. When she went for her spay it took her a couple of days to get over it. Poor thing, she probably thought she'd been abandoned again.
The great news is that Mindy is housebroken. Whew! That's a big deal with little dogs. So often it takes forever to house break them. Not our little girl. The first night she was letting us know when it was time to go out. She is fine with cats now. She was raised with cats and at first she wanted to run and play with them. Obviously, she'd had a cat friend that she was able to chase around. Now she's realized that not all cats want to be chased. If she is placed into a home with cats, she'll be fine with them with proper introduction. She would also bond with a cat that is up for a little game of chase now and then.
Mindy is used to nice gentle big dogs. She enjoys playing with them as long as they don't get too rough with her. It will be important to properly introduce her to other dogs.
Mindy is a nice little lap dog. We think she may have been raised with children who carried her around like a doll. When you pick her up she likes to be carried like a baby doll. She would like to sit with you and have you rub her tummy all night.
We would prefer an adult home for Mindy. She might do OK with kids, but she's a fairly gentle diva who really wants to become a pampered Princess.
