Lionel's Story...
Lionel is in a foster-to-adopt situation!

Lionel joined us on our most recent visit to Animal Care and Control, and what a find he is! We call him Lionel the Lionheart - one walk around the block with this charmer and he’s sure to win your heart. He’s currently being nursed to health at our vet and will be ready for a foster or a new forever home soon!

Regal, charming and good-natured, you couldn’t ask for more in an adult dog. He’s gentlemanly as can be on leash, too! He’s responsive and gentle, and would likely be a great family dog. According to the vet staff, he happily hops back into his crate and sits to ask for kisses from the kennel staff after walks. He seems to be crate-trained as well.

At six years old, he has lots of vigorous energy and loves to prance about in the snow. He frolics in circles and loves to play with people and dogs alike. This wise, brown-eyed boy is also extremely intelligent. He has the unique ability to use his paws like human hands! He’ll jump up and ‘hug’ you (he loves to be hugged back, too!), or use his paws to grip and nab a bone or toy within reach to claim it as his own. Watch out, he’s been known to finagle open crate doors too!

Lionel is very people-oriented, but would likely do well in a home with other dogs. He hasn’t been cat-tested yet but we’d be happy to do so. Please contact us with any questions or to meet, foster, or make Lionel the newest addition to your family!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lionel, a Chicago Collie dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Collie for sale in Chicago, or seeking a Collie dog from a breeder in Chicago.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Chicago already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Chicago breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Collie breeders who help with Collie rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Chicago paves the way for another one to be saved.
