My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barkley is an adorable Labradoodle. He is around 3 years old and has a lot of courage. Barkely must go to a home with another confident dog.

You see, until he found GRFR, Barkley lived in a place where he was not loved, socialized, or trained. As a result, while he craves human attention and is attracted to people who exhibit confident and loving leadership, Barkley is still hesitant about new people and new situations.

Barkley is settling in well with a very special GRFR foster family who has extensive experience with dogs like Barkley. They also have their own large breed dogs who are showing him what a confident and happy dog he was born to be. Barkley's whole foster family will continue working on helping him learn to trust new people and new situations. As Barkley has settled into his foster home his delightful personality has started to show itself more and more each day. He is very playful with his foster brothers and has almost an impish quality to his play. He obviously loves it very much. He has grown very close to his foster mom and plays with her and likes to cuddle in the easy chair with her in the evenings. Foster dad is still a work in progress. Barkley will let the foster dad pet him in certain situations but not in others. Whereas he follows his foster mom around the house all day, he only follows foster dad when mom is not around. Barkley loves to ride in the car and go on walks, it's one of his favorite things and he gets very disappointed when someone leaves the house and he is not allowed to go. Barkley is going to make a wonderful household companion for some lucky family. That being said it will also need to be a very thoughtful and very patient family. Barkley is still very timid and easily frightened and most likely will be for some time. He probably would not do well in a house with small children. We haven't seen him with cats but he has shown an interest in small dogs so we will need to see him with any cat a family interested in him might have.

Barkley is available for adoption during this time. Please note a few "must haves" . He needs a calm, predictable and understanding family, with adults who have been successful working with highly fearful dogs; no children yet please. A sociable dog sibling is also right a the top of Barkley's list. To find out more about giving a truly deserving Doodle boy his forever home with your family, please fill out your adoption application. Our volunteers will be in touch.

Please note: GRFR cannot certify our Doodles as hypoallergenic.
