December 13, 2006. Update on Rocko from foster mom:

I wanted to update you and give you some new information you could pass on about Rocko to anyone interested in adopting him.

i've now had him for two days and can say without hesitation that he is a GREAT dog. He was initially kind of freaked out when we took him from the kennel and refused to go through doorways or up or down stairs.

I'm happy to report that in a short amount of time, that's pretty much been solved (it's amazing what a few cubes of cheese can do). He's a quick learner and very eager to please.

I took him to the dog park yesterday, and have been walking him regularly. So far he's shown no signs of aggression with anyone, whether dog or human. He is very interested in playing and making friends, but is not an out-of-control hyper dog.

Rocko's very low-maintenance; he's spent a bunch of hours in his crate and doesn't complain when i put him in there. He likes to cuddle on the floor when he gets let out of the crate. He's very, very affectionate and not rough...even when he teeths he has a pretty soft mouth.

One final thing: the picture from the pound really doesn't do him justice. People stop me constantly on the street to remark on how cute he is. Everyone wants to pet him, and he's more than happy to make friends.

I really hope we can find him a good permanent home. Hhe is great with other dogs, and I believe he'd be excellent with kids. Let me know if you need any more information!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Rocko, a New York Belgian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Belgian Shepherd for sale in New York, or seeking a Belgian Shepherd dog from a breeder in New York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in New York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a New York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Belgian Shepherd breeders who help with Belgian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in New York paves the way for another one to be saved.
