Alex's Story...
Alex is a friendly Boxer mix who is approximately one year old. He is a large dog who tips the scales at 60+ pounds. He came to us on March 1st from Animal Control as a stray and spent several months at a veterinary school undergoing treatment for heartworms. Now that he has a clean bill of
health, Alex is ready for a new home.

It's amazing that dogs like Alex wind up in Animal Control. He's sweet, confident, social, house-trained and well-mannered. When Alex arrived at his foster home, he immediately settled in and made friends with the dogs, cats and young children in the home (well, not all of the cats
condescended to befriend him, but Alex sure tried). He likes to play and chew on toys but also knows how to relax and chill out. Although he is crate-trained, Alex behaves so well that he's allowed the run of the house whether his foster family is home or not. (He does like to relocate certain shoes when left alone, but that's been the extent of his mischief!). He appears to be completely house-trained
and is saving his foster mom loads of money on carpet cleaner.

Alex is a strong dog who can pull quite hard on a leash, but he does very well in an Easy Walk Harness. His ideal home would have a fenced-in yard or someone devoted to taking him
for walks/runs. He is obsessed with toy balls and loves to chase them down and chew on them.

If you would like to meet this sweet boy, please call HSMC at 618.282.PETS (7387) to set up an appointment.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Alex, a Columbia Boxer dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Boxer for sale in Columbia, or seeking a Boxer dog from a breeder in Columbia.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Columbia already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Columbia breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Boxer breeders who help with Boxer rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Columbia paves the way for another one to be saved.
