Facts about Bevis

  • Breed: Domestic Mediumhair
  • Color: Black & White Or Tuxedo
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Male
  • Hair: Medium
Bevis was found wandering the streets of Saranac Lake with no apparent home to call his own. He was so used to fending for himself that he wouldn't let the shelter manager near him with a can of food as she tried to help him. Eventually, he gave in and went into a havahart trap for something yummy, and now he's waiting for a chance to find a new home. We believe he is ~3-4 years old now, and is a cool looking black and white cat, with a BIG personality.

He seems to do okay with most of the other cats here at the shelter, but he would NOT like to be forced to be around dogs. He was probably used to being an indoor/outdoor cat, but we would hope he could stay indoors where he'd be warm and safe. If you're interested in meeting our buddy Bevis, contact us or stop by for a visit when we are open.

Once in a while we give Bevis a nice haircut -shave at the Vet when his hair gets a little out of control. He is not always a fan of being brushed out, but at times he lets us help him with a few tangles he gets. Having him shaved helps when his coat is too thick to groom, and he actually seems to like having a clean cut. He struts around the shelter like a new man and likes having his photo taken too! It is really funny to witness.

Bevis has been neutered, is up to date on his vaccinations and is also microchipped. He is ready to go to a new home, so please contact us if you are interested in finding out more about him. Or, better yet! Stop by and ask to meet him in person.

Our adoption application is available on our website, and you can submit it to us to be pre approved to adopt a cat!

About Tri-Lakes Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

"We speak for those who cannot" has been our shelter's motto since 1973. Since 1942 our members and staff have rescued homeless and unwanted pets, and placed them into new and loving homes.
In 1998, our board of directors voted to become a "no-kill" facility. "No-kill" means we do not euthanize healthy & adoptable animals to make room for new arrivals. In 2001, we moved to our new facility at 255 George Lapan Hwy in Saranac Lake, NY. Since our big move, we have rescued and adopted out over 3000 animals and reunited over 1000 pets with their owners.

We are very involved in our local community, and we have a Humane Education program and we travel to local schools to educate children on proper animal care, the importance of spaying and neutering, and how to be kind to animals.
Our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program provides financial aid to low income pet owners who need help affording the cost of the surgery at local Veterinary Hospitals and Clinics.
We also have a Trap-Neuter-Return program to help local community feral cats.

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society employs an Animal/Dog Control Officer, and contracts with local towns and villages. Our Dog Control Officer is in charge of enforcing the local Dog Control ordinances. From time to time, we also become involved in animal cruelty cases and assist local law enforcement with their investigations.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Applications must be submitted and approved prior to adoption of any animal. You can view our Adoption Policies and application form on our website:

Our Adoption Fee for dogs/puppies and cats/kittens is $77, which covers the spay/neuter cost, microchipping and registration, as well as all vaccinations, flea treatment, and wormings.
The Adoption Fees vary if the pet was already spayed/neutered and vaccinated prior to arriving at our shelter.
We also have a Seniors for Seniors adoption program. If a person over 60 years of age opts to adopt a pet over the age of 7, all adoption fees are waived.
