Important Note

Nermal is best friends with Joey. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Nermal has been up for adoption since Sept. of 2007. She came in as a kitten with her 2 brothers, happened to be a bit shy then, and was overlooked time and time again as other litters of kittens came into our shelter. She is now 3 1/2 years old, and is still desperately looking to be adopted. Nermal is a funny cat, and loves to play with toys and catnip! She also loves to play in the water dish! One of the nicest things about this sweet girl is that she LOVES other cats and would be happiest living in a home with at least one other cat. She would probably tolerate a mellow type dog and kids too. She lives in our cat play room, and usually is hamming it up for visitors behind the large glass window or out in our shelter hallway greeting everyone! If you're looking for a funloving cat, come in and visit with Nermal! Our adoption application is available on our website. You can submit it to us to be preapproved to adopt.

About Tri-Lakes Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

"We speak for those who cannot" has been our shelter's motto since 1973. Since 1942 our members and staff have rescued homeless and unwanted pets, and placed them into new and loving homes.
In 1998, our board of directors voted to become a "no-kill" facility. "No-kill" means we do not euthanize healthy & adoptable animals to make room for new arrivals. In 2001, we moved to our new facility at 255 George Lapan Hwy in Saranac Lake, NY. Since our big move, we have rescued and adopted out over 3000 animals and reunited over 1000 pets with their owners.

We are very involved in our local community, and we have a Humane Education program and we travel to local schools to educate children on proper animal care, the importance of spaying and neutering, and how to be kind to animals.
Our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program provides financial aid to low income pet owners who need help affording the cost of the surgery at local Veterinary Hospitals and Clinics.
We also have a Trap-Neuter-Return program to help local community feral cats.

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society employs an Animal/Dog Control Officer, and contracts with local towns and villages. Our Dog Control Officer is in charge of enforcing the local Dog Control ordinances. From time to time, we also become involved in animal cruelty cases and assist local law enforcement with their investigations.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Applications must be submitted and approved prior to adoption of any animal. You can view our Adoption Policies and application form on our website:

Our Adoption Fee for dogs/puppies and cats/kittens is $77, which covers the spay/neuter cost, microchipping and registration, as well as all vaccinations, flea treatment, and wormings.
The Adoption Fees vary if the pet was already spayed/neutered and vaccinated prior to arriving at our shelter.
We also have a Seniors for Seniors adoption program. If a person over 60 years of age opts to adopt a pet over the age of 7, all adoption fees are waived.
