How well do you know your Greek mythology? Do you know the story about Pandora and her infamous box? Not only do I share the same name as the Greek goddess, Pandora, but also some of the same attributes. Zeus, the king of the gods, gave Pandora to man as a gift. Pandora was the first woman on Earth as was described as extremely beautiful. Well, I can tell you that I am also the gods’ gift to man and that I am also extremely striking! I am a 4 year old female Redbone Coonhound. I am built sleek like a deer, weighing 55 pounds and standing 21 inches to the shoulder. But instead of roaming Mount Olympus, I was found as a stray in Southern Indiana and ended up in a high kill shelter. Now I am treated as deity in my foster home with Rover Rescue. My charming personality has earned me free reign in the house. I am never crated as I am completely housebroken and have impeccable house manners. Typical of my breed, I am a sweet and loving family dog. I love getting attention and cuddles from people of all ages, especially children. I will lie next to you, rest my head in your lap, and look up at you with my big beautiful brown eyes. If you start rubbing my belly, I will stretch out my entire body and will grunt with contentment. I will greet visitors to the house with a big kiss, if they are the affectionate type. I adore my playmates at my foster home, both cats and dogs. I play gently with the kitties and we can be found grooming each other. I love to play in the backyard with my canine foster siblings. I am pretty high energy when I am outside, running and playing. I enjoy going for walks, but I do pull on my leash. We can work on my leash skills together. I am good in the car, but have been known to get car sick at times. I know how to sit on command and am an expert treat catcher. Unfortunately, Pandora and I have something else in common.
Curiosity got the best of Pandora, the Greek goddess. She was given a gift (?) on her wedding day, a box. She was told not to open this box under any circumstances, but what could go wrong from a tiny sneak peak? Little did she know that by lifting the lid, she would unleash all the evils now known to man! Humans could no longer lounge about all day long, but would now have to work and succumb to illnesses. Well, my curiosity is not going to cause cancer or back breaking labor, but does cause some chaos. My hound nose will get the best of me and will lead me astray as I follow a scent of my liking. My inquisitiveness requires a sturdy 5 or 6 foot fence for me. I am quite the jumper! I will hurdle a smaller fence to find out who or what is on the other side. I am also a watchdog, as I will let you know that trespassers are present on the other side of my fence. I have a loud and mighty bark. A safe and secure fenced yard is needed to keep me safe, well behaved, and keep my curiosity at bay.
On a positive note, at the very bottom of Pandora’s Box was one last thing to come out. It wasn’t something evil, but something good that Pandora unleashed. We call it today by the name of hope. I am thankful for this gift as I do have a lot of hope. I have the hope of finding a furever family that will cherish me. I have the hope of never being cold and abandoned again.
